Buzzcut Advice Please - Thinning????

Hi,

I’m 37 and buzz my hair on a 1 guard (3mm). I cut it once a week and the clippers hardly take anything from the top of my head, sides and back still grow a little. Apologies for the pic quality.

A few questions come to mind:

1) Thoughts on length. Does it look ok or should I go shorter? I do have a 0.5 guard (1.5mm) or could go no guard!
2) Am I right in thinking my crown is thinning??!
2) Do you think I will eventually go bald?? Is there anyway to tell?

Any thoughts or advice would be most appreciated.

1) length looks good
2) yes, you're thinning all over it seems but mostly on vertex
3) yes, you will.

the buzz looks good. I would consider taking finasteride to maintain and just rock the buzz.

#1 on top and get the sides and back faded & blended in with the top. Will look stylish

#1all over shows your horse shoe because of the lack of density on top. Counter this with a fade.

can you elaborate on this, "fading and blending"... if it's number 1 on top, won't it have to be that way every where? I am interested, because I am heading in that direction. :O

Short as possible on the sides and back accentuates the hair on top. Even if you're thinning, it's not noticeable to anyone who isn't a hair loss guru if you just do a fade.

That just means that the top will be number 1 while the sides will gradually reach a number 1 when they get to the top. Will sort of look like this except with the top much shorter.

That's s high fade which works well for those who have recession and no temple points.

Low fade will also work. Where around the ears, neck and nape is almost bare and then gradually get denser at the top of the sides.

Thanks for all the replies. I’m sure fading would work well but having had a look at the process on youtube, I have to say that I’m terrified at the thought of attempting that myself. Yeah, I can see it going horribly wrong!!!

I’m a simple kinda guy, just throw on an attachment and cut. If we are looking at buzzcuts only, do I stick with this length for now (1 guard, 3mm) or go shorter to the 0.5 guard (1.5mm)?

I guess the 1.5mm will hide the ‘horseshoe’ more but I just wonder how it would look on me.
I’ve never gone below 3mm before.

Are there any picture galleries on this site with buzzcut images of different lengths??

That's where you went wrong.

Get a male barber to fade and trim your hair to make the best possible version of yourself. Be amazed at what a good barber can do.

Avoid female / hair cut express type places

Your hair is very similar to mine although im only 25! What i do is every week i buzz it at a 1 on top and .5 on the sides 100% better than a 1 all around trust me! and every two weeks i go to a barber and get a proper fade skin fade to a 1 on top plus a good line up makes a difference. i go to a barber every week if it wasnt so expensive.

This is great advice. If you're getting a short hair cut the male barbers and especially Turkish barbers are the place to go. I once got a cut at a fancy hairdressers thinking that because it was expensive they would give me a good cut but lets just say it was one of the worst haircuts of my life! The male barbers on the other hand are specialists in short haircuts and they always spend ages making sure it's as good as it can be, not to mention they are cheaper!.

My barbers are all Lebanese and very experienced in cuts. Any barber who cannot do fades is trash. The ones who just throw on a clipper are a joke.

My barber is able to give me a low fade and blade/tooth comb the remaining hairs above to transition and blend with my fut scar. In return short sides and and back while blending my scar

I’m on a tight budget at the moment but will consider a barber sometime in the future - once again thanks for all the advice.

youngguyhairloss - 1 on top and 0.5 on sides sounds like a good idea. Might give it a try soon.

I have to be honest and say I haven’t really paid too much attention to my hair in the past. I will keep a close eye on it and see how things go. From what I’ve read, it’s very hard to predict hair loss.

The 1 buzzcut seems to be fine for the moment - it’s easy to do and takes very little time. If my hair changes I will probably post again here and see what everyone thinks!
