Breast inflammation from finasteride and ongoing side effects...

For some strange reason my other thread was moved to the "off-topic community".

I can´t understand this because I have teribble problems with Propecia and I´m not here for chatter

Short summary: I started Propecia 05, there were side effects like testicle pain almost immediately..I stopped and tried again a few times til there were no side effects at all. I guess I took Propecia for 3-5 months. I think it worked ok, but then I decided to quit because my girlfriend was afraid of this drug and its potential side effects...

4 weeks ago I decided to give Propecia another try. I stopped 2 weeks later because I suffered and still suffer from little testicle pain and heavy breast inflammation on my left breast...

I have got an appointment at my doctor on thursday. I have read that in some rare cases Propecia could cause breast cancer...hooray!!!

I have read all the bad things about finasteride and Propecia years ago and didnt give a damn about it because I thought these gyus were nuts, but now I really think its a dangerous way of battling hairloss.

There are als sources which say Proscar isnt the right med to cope with prostata issues...

Maybe we are all on the wrong track...only Merck does it right.

Sorry, if I panic, but I´m really desperate...

You just sound like you were unlucky. Sorry mate. Maybe try a reduced dosage if you want to continue?

As for breast cancer...

The relationship between long-term use of finasteride and male breast neoplasia is currently unknown. During a 4- to 6-year placebo- and comparator-controlled study that enrolled 3047 men, there were 4
cases of breast cancer in men treated with PROSCAR but no cases in men not treated with PROSCAR. In another 4-year, placebo-controlled study that enrolled 3040 men, there were 2 cases of breast cancer in
placebo-treated men, but no cases were reported in men treated with PROSCAR.

No..I´m finished with this stuff... There are more important things in life than full hair...and I loved my hair...

I know the odds of breast cancer...nevertheless I´m afraid of it. I dont take Propecia for 2 weeks anymore, despite this its not getting better and I´m not making things up here...

As I said before I took Propecia for quite some time without any problems...but now.

Propecia is too risky...

It´s everybodies free choice, but I´m afraid that the only winner in the race to stop baldness here is Merck.

In 30 years from now a lot can happen with your body because of taking finasteride. A lot of people seem to develope some kind of restinance for finasteride and so it wont work anyway...Why taking chances for nothing?

The only chance left for me is a transplant...but screwing with your hormons is the wrong way and I dont think I represent the 2% of "weirdos" with serious side effects...there are much more out there...

Of course nobody can tell if most of these horror stories are made up, but for me the experiment Propecia is over...I understand that nobody who doesnt suffer from serious sides want to see it that way. The truth hurts and I really believe that almost nobody here, who takes finasteride does it without having any slight concern about its long term effects...

Perhaps its better to wait til the hair cloning tech is here for us...I dont know...but I´m 27 and I want family. There seems to be a connection between Propecia and not having a healthy child.

But back to my sides.Anyone else suffering from my problems?

Hey, you should wait longer. People have said it has taken them a few months even to get back to normal. You have only been off it two weeks so its still very early.

But this time I have only taken them 2 weeks...probably shorter...

And now more than 2 weeks have passed since I quit...

It seems strange that you could take the drug for an extended period in 05 and experience no sides, then return to it at a later date and face the problems you have.

Two things occur to me-
1. Do you have an authentic supply of finasteride? Or fake cr*p from the net?
2. Maybe you have other problems besides the effects of DHT suppression.

I wouldn´t take any crap from the net
I have 100% official Propecia from Merck. You dont get any other stuff in my country (except from the net).

There are some sources on the net which also state that the side effects can be worse from treatment to treatment...I didnt know this before...I also presumed that I just can take it again without making up my mind of new sides...

Believe me I would gladly praise Propecia as the "wonder drug" but I can´t...

Physicians should instruct their patients to promptly report any changes in their breasts such as lumps, pain, or nipple discharge. Breast changes including breast enlargement, tenderness, and neoplasm have been reported.

Thats from http://www.propecia.com/finasteride/pro ... /index.jsp

I dont have problems that side effects occured...but its troubling meh that they dont go away anymore after stopping the treatment...

Are 2 weeks really to short?

Indeed. But the detailed drug information also states that "In the clinical studies with PROPECIA, the incidences for breast tenderness and enlargement, hypersensitivity reactions, and testicular pain in finasteride-treated patients were not different from those in patients treated with placebo."

All it says in the literature is "new reports of drug-related sexual adverse experiences decreased with duration of therapy."

Theoretically Propecia-related sides should disappear as your DHT levels return to normal a few days after you cease taking the drug. But I'm no doctor! Consult the professionals.

Somebody here told me that the DHT level needs 2-4 weeks to get back to normal...

I´m in the third week now...

Well, I'm not a medical expert and I'm only commenting on the basis of personal research and logic.

Remember finasteride has a very short half-life (6-8 hrs), so taking it every 24hrs does not build up a massive steady-state amount in your system.

Bryan and other knowledgeable posters have said many times that side effects are directly proportional to the degree to which DHT is reduced.
Logically, if DHT returns to baseline within a few days of stopping treatment, side effects should subside shortly thereafter.

The detailed drug info says,
Integrated analysis of clinical adverse experiences showed that during treatment with PROPECIA, 36 (3.8%) of 945 men had reported one or more of these adverse experiences as compared to 20 (2.1%) of
934 men treated with placebo (p=0.04). Resolution occurred in men who discontinued therapy with PROPECIA due to these side effects and in most of those who continued therapy. The incidence of each of the above adverse experiences decreased to ≤0.3% by the fifth year of treatment with PROPECIA.

You'll really need to consult a medical professional about the breast enlargement issue.

I have an appointment in thursday for a mammogram. Then I will know more. Some people over the internet seem to share my breast problem...

Its rather strange that the side effects are still there including my light testicle pain...

Here´s a quote from another forum member:

The finasteride itself has a half-life of 5-6 hours but the 5AR Type II enzyme's half life is 30 days and the Type I enzyme is 14 days.

So is there any way to increase the DHT level for me?

I forgot to tell something really important. Propecia wasnt the only pill I took the last weeks, but also vitamins pills including zinc.

I just read that zinc is somehow connected to DHT...perhaps I had an overdose?

Anybody?

I have taken Propecia for five years and have not had any gyn issues that I can notice.

I started taking HGW to boost libido starting in 1.06 and it's good stuff.
