I'm 32 years old, and I've been noticing a slow loss of hair for about 5 years or so. Within the last 3 years it's picked up in pace. I'm currently using Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner but no other treatments. The pics below have just been taken for the purpose of posting them here on this form. I appreciate any and all advice. Thank You!

Your hair loss looks very similar to mine, except I'm only 21 so you're very lucky its happening now. You definitely need to get on propecia asap if you wanna keep the hair you have, also use rogaine to grow some of it back.

Thanks for the replies.

I have a couple of questions. Are these treatments the "Big 3" that I've read about?

Also, I believe Finasteride requires a prescription and if so, which is better Propecia or Proscar? I also assume you mean't 1 milligram per day correct?

What is the amount of Rogaine to use per day and if I remember correctly, it is for crown regrowth only.

Is the Nizoral 1% shampoo enough or do I need to get the perscription 2%. Is this also to be used once per day?

Lastly, what side effects can I expect if I follow these treatments?

Thanks again everybody!

I'm going to make this simple...The only Hairloss drugs that have been approved by the FDA, and that are worth taking, are Propecia, and Rogaine, many people also use Nizoral shampoo, which helps fight scalp inflamation, Use these three treatment and at a minimum you will drasticaly slow your hairloss, at best you will regrow alot of hair.

1: Finasteride 1 millagram (Brand name Propecia/Proscar)

Finasteride's Method of action- suppresses the enzyme A5R2 which is the ezyme responsible for the conversion of Testosterone into DHT

2: Minoxidil (Brand name Rogaine/Regaine)

Minoxidil's Method of action- Increases scalp circulation ,through vasodilation, which leads to hair growth.

3: Ketozale (An ingrediant in Nizoral Shampoo)

Ketozales Method of action- Reduces scalp inflamation and itching, dilates the hair follicle, which increases the appearence of thick hair.

These are the only treatments worth taking, it takes an entire year of daily use to see benifits, good luck!

Thanks for the great info! Have you been using the big three yourself and if so what have been the results? Also, about the Nizoral, how many times per day/week? I've heard about shedding is this common with the big three?

Thanks again!!

Yes this is ''the big three'', Finasteride , Minoxidil, Nizoral.

The recomended dose of Finasteride is 1 Millagram per day, Propecia is the brand name for 1 millagram tablets of Finateride. Proscar is a 5 millagram tablet of Finasteride and is Prescribed to treat BPH, but some people cut 5 millagram Proscar tablets into 5 peices, and take one peice per day because, Proscar is offered in a generic and Propecia is not, it's about $60 a month cheaper to use Proscar instead of Propecia, both require a prescription.

Just follow the directions on the package for the Minoxidil. Nizoral 1% works fine and is available OTC.

I only personally use Finasteride and Nizoral. I used to use Minoxidil, and I wish that I still could use it because it works great, but I was one of the unlucky few who experienced side effects from Minoxidil, but most people do not get sides from Minoxidil and I still would recomend it.

If you use the Nizoral more than three times a week it will dry your hair out. But the Nizoral is great stuff and it really makes my hair appear thicker.

Shedding does sometimes occur from treatments, one mistake that many people make is stopping the treatments due to the shedding. Remember it takes an entire year of daily use to see full benefits, and shedding is actually an indication that the Balding process is reversing, as thin hairs are shed new thicker hair shafts will replace them in time.

I used to lose quite a bit of hair daily, I had pretty aggressive hairloss which started when I was about 17 years old, I started taking Finasteride when I was 24 which was a little over a year ago, and my hairloss has stopped for now at least, without Finasteride I would have a lot less hair than I currently have. So I'm happy that I reversed the process.

Just so we are very clear here, Tea Tree anything should NOT be considered a treatment.

i've been on minoxidil/finasteride (brand name propecia) for 2 years and it completely stopped my hair loss, wish i had started earlier. i am 28.

i'm betting you'll be fine with propecia/proscar alone since your hair loss looks very gradual
