Bomb,

I know this is going to come completely out of left field and may cause a stir, but I dont believe that you are suffering from male pattern baldness. You have said in your previous post that your hair situation was similar to mine i.e hairline still intact with general thinning all over coupled with a painful and itchy scalp. As Dr Lee has said, this scalp pain is not consistent with male pattern baldness. What I have is more closely related to female alopecia and I think this may be in your case as well.

This may be the reason why you feel Propecia is not working for you. I am not sure whether you suffer from any anxiety or psychological disorder e.g.depression, or have had certain events happening to you in the past, but I believe you should have alook into this theory. As Dr Lee has mentioned, Derms and Doctors do not understand Scalp Dysthesia so you may need to research it. According to the article Dr Lee refers to, it states that it is more a symptom of telogen Effluvium associated with depression or psychological disorders. It is treated with Anti Depressants which calm the nerves around the scalp. Women who were treated with antidepressants, treated their scalp conditions and grew back some hair.

I am not sure, maybe you can give us some more background??

You know I havent seen pics of him, but I know from my situation that I dont think it is propecia that is working for me at all. I believe I have been able to limit my hair loss through treating my scalp pain and I think bomb might be in the same situation..

Youngguy17 have you seen pics of bomb?

Yes. He has pretty thick hair and doesn't have traditional balding. He has a perfect hairline and no hair loss in the crown. He has scatered hairloss on the vertex of his head. I told him the other day that I wouldn't be surprised if he could regrow all of his hair.

Guys hold on If I remember correctly he was diagnosed by Dr. Lee and Doctor Lee would know the difference between male pattern baldness and the like.

Red,

I dont think Dr Lee can diagnose someone by looking at them on one consultation.

I emailed Dr Lee and included an extensive range of pictures for him to have a look at and told him my history and the bomb said his situation was similar to mine.

Dr Lee told me that my symptoms are not consistent with male pattern baldness??

I am also not sure if Bomb told him about his burning and sore scalp, which may have changed his diagnosis.

well, is your hair growing thinner? i have dark brown hair, and it's light brown and short in the places where male pattern baldness is taking place (the crown), so i would think you could pretty much tell. do you have spaces where there is no hair growing or something?

I have the exact same problem i have the most itchy scalp you could believe!

For most of this year my scalp has been inflammed, and has patchy thin areas dotted around my scalp, the problem is it seems to be getting worse! my dandruff is completely out of control and nothing i throw at it seems to help :(

Anyone?

My scalp was quite itchy for a long time prior to treatment, and I assure you that, unfortunately, I do have male pattern baldness.

Sometimes I would scratch my vertex so hard it would become severely irritated and begin to throb. It wasn't fun.

Itchy scalp is a hallmark of hormonally related hair loss. It is one of the most common biproducts of it. Androgenetic Alopecia (male pattern baldness). Pain in the area of the follicle is actually very commonly reported as well, at certain times. I myself had it for a while. Parting the hair the wrong direction actually caused physical discomfort. This was for me during the first 3-6 months when all the changes were just starting to occur.

Sorry I've stayed out of this thread so long, work has been killer.

So here is what I think; I probably do have male pattern baldness (based on family history and the fact that my hairloss is primarily on the top of my head). However, I am very suspect that I might have something else going on like a case of Telogen Effluvium. One day I noticed the hairs that i'm losing from the back and sides of my head are thinning towards the root as well. The hair on the sides of my head is almost as thin ast the hair on top now. I really dont know what to think. Then I have a weird bald spot front & center.

crown is acceptable... (this picture is after wetting hair completely)

That sensation you have about someone pulling you hair out. That's exactly the way my hair feels every day. I've also "suffered" from depression for the last 10 years and have been on many antidepressants. I will look into what you are talking about but I'm not hopeful that switching antidepressants will help my situation. I am trying to eliminate stress and anixeity from my life in order to help with my situation.

Also when I went to Dr. Lee and I explained my situation to him he was very suspect of what was going on with me. He really didn't have an answer. Because my loss is so patchy, I keep my hair long and can conceal it well. At first he said, "you look good". I do have a near perfect hairline... which is really really odd. When I did pull back my hair and show him he tried a pluck test on me and said that he thought there was "abnormality" in my hair loss, but to stay on minoxidil and see how it worked out.

So I have a fresh batch of minoxidil that I will stay on, and I'll still rock the folligen.

Bomb,

Your hair actually looks better to me than the last pictures you posted. You are in good shape. Plus if you got some topik you could cover that easy.

About your depression, you should look into the bible it will make ya feel better. You will realize that there is more to life than going to work, and fixing up your hair. Good luck with your regimen stick with it.

Plus you got a pretty solid regimen down there. Your taking propecia, spironolactone, and saw palmetto so im sure it's atleast stopping your hairloss.
