Hi all,

I'm 22 years old and from the looks of it I'm at a norwood 2.5 with diffuse thinning. I want to get started on finasteride and min asap. I was just wondering how many of you went through all the blood work etc. when visiting a derm and if all that is really required?

Also, I can still see a fair amount of short thin hairs from where my old hairline used to be, does this mean there is a good chance I'll be able to get those hairs to turn terminal?

thanks

blood work???? Nope. Just went to the dermatologist and he looked at my hairline and determined i had m.p.b. Signed me a perscription for propecia. As for minoxidil, anyone can take it, you can get it at your local pharmacy next to the shampoos. And yes you can still save those hair that used to be at your old hairline if you are one of the good responders. If I were you I would get on the big three (propecia, nizoral, and rogaine) ASAP.

Hope everything goes well for you man.

loosingItFast,

Definitely get tests done BEFORE you start finasteride. If you have sides you'll be glad to have a baseline.

Get:

Total Testosterone
Free Testosterone
DHT
Estradiol (E2)
Estrone (E1)
Total Estrogens
LH
FSH

i think its a good idea to have the blood work done before you get on any treatment

Hormone Imbalance can well lead to aggresive hair loss, dont you know that?

i see. this might sound stupid but should i ask him hey i want my blood checked and thats it. Or do I have to be specific and ask him to check the hormone levels only. Cause I'm a little embarrassed of telling people of my hair loss because its not visible yet and I'm still pretty young. I'd just like to see the hormone levels without telling him that i need it done to see if its causing me to go bald faster.
