I read somwhere that if you are concerned about possible side effects from finasteride, you should take a blood test before you start taking it. That way, you can do another blood test if you have sex problems and the test might give you a hint to what the problem is. Tomorrow i'll see my dr. and I want to know what i should test for? I read somewhere that I should test the testo/estrogen and Zink?? Please advice. Btw, why zink?

There's nothing wrong with a blood test before to establish a baseline level of testosterone and various things. Never heard of checking zinc. It's not necessary though. If you're not having erection problems before taking Propecia and you have them after using the drug, you know the cause and you how to fix the problem, stop taking Propecia.

Taking a blood test to establish baseline values before using finasteride is very important, yes. No doctor will probably recommend this, but I speak from first hand experience. I've been suffering from severe side effects, and a sheet with hormone baseline values would be like a map in the jungle.

Check LH, FSH, Testosterone, Estrogen, Prolactin and SHBG, and store that sheet a safe place. Your future health might be dependent on it.

Zink act as an aromatase inhibitor, and should be used to shift the testosterone/estrogen ratio in favor of testosterone at early stages. Altered testosterone/estrogen ratio (low/high) is the reason people suffer from side effects like reduced libido and erectile dysfunction.
