Interesting link there -sam:)

"It is also said that consuming black sesame prevents hair loss. "

However, it's stated in that article as hearsay rather than a proven fact or medical possibility. The big give-a-way is the phrase "It is also said" ...sounds like an old-wive's tale to me :freaked2: But yes, it isn't a bad idea to make sure that your diet is well balanced as balance is a very good thing when it comes to a healthy scalp

Black

Apart from the fact that they share the common trait of being black, beans, olives and sesame are also alike because they all help maintain one’s youth. The isoflavone found in black beans prevents osteoporosis and is especially helpful during menopause. Black sesame is rich in lecithin, which helps with metabolism activity and improves concentration. It is also said that consuming black sesame prevents hair loss.

It is also said? That's pretty vague but "isoflavone" is a key word here which bring's in the green tea/soy bean claims.

Koreans in general eat healthy. Lots of garlic, chillies, veggies, fish, etc. But, black sesame to prevent hair loss? Its a hard sell since; in Korea the spray hair stuff is really popular (ie they've got plenty of baldies and their losing hair no matter what they do). I've seen a bit of hoaxery in Korea with some things (but, also a lot of good things too). I've had plenty of black sesame in my time and don't think is contributing to my hair loss prevention.

In the end like green tea and tofu; it's good for you so put it in your diet (in Korea, it's a common garnish, is a common ice cream flavor and even in drink boxes as black sesame milk). However, I for one am not going to become some sort of black sesame expirement (as I personally don't like the taste).

according to indian ayurveda, black sesame and sesame are good for the health of the hair. type ayurveda and hair loss in google, you will find many sites. but they recommend massaging the hair with some special oils (could be the essential free fatty acids which are bryan's favorite).

natural products with DHT lowering properties

Check this good old patent wich started the discussion of green tea involving lowering of DHT levels, also mentioned is Sesame seed, blackcurrent berries, linseed and a lot of other seeds (if you can get a hold on the full-text article). Seeds contain fatty acids like Alpha & Gamma linolenic acids, altough this is not the same as the proven effective free fatty acids form wich are present in Revivogen.

this is the selected part from the article, feel informed:

2. Plants and Fungi

Preparations were also obtained and specific compounds were isolated from various plant materials. Some of these were able to regulate both the type 1 and type 2 5 alpha -reductase isozymes of rat and human. While some of these agents were inhibitory, other agents stimulated 5 alpha -reductase activities.

Each plant material (1 to 2 g) was extracted by 2 to 10 ml of water, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, ether, chloroform, or ethyl acetate. Organic solvents can contain 0-90% of water and the extraction can be carried out at 0o-100o C. for 30 minutes to 20 hours.

When 1 g of the plant material was extracted with 4 ml of ethanol or water, and 3 mu l of the extract was tested in the liver microsomal 5 alpha -reductase assay system (the final volume of the reaction mixture was 0.15 ml), a significant inhibitory activity (over 20% inhibition) was observed with extracts from various brands of green tea, Yunnan tea, special gunpowder tea, oolong tea, black tea, chlorella, black shiitake mushroom, basil leaves, parsley leaves, and Chinese herbs, including Angelica sinensis, Anisi stellati fructus, Codonopsis pilosula, Ligustici rhizoma, Salvia mitiorrhiza, and Golden Lilly flower, seeds of borage, evening primose, black current, sesame, pumpkin, sunflower, and wheat germ. Basicly what this post points out is that seed oils containing fatty acids for the most part reduce dht in the scalp to a small degree. Note:flax seed lignans where said to inhibit very well.
