Hello all,

Im am a 27 old who until 2 years ago never worried about hair loss. There is a trait in my fathers side of the family for temporal recession but he has always had a decent amount of hair and even now at 58 still has some hair...although thinning at the temples and crown.
My Mothers side of the family generally keep there hair and my 60+yr old uncle looks like shirley bassey!

last summer i noticed my hair was starting to thin at the crown and ever so slightly at the temples so i started getting increasingly worried that i would be an exception and bald early. I reasearched propecia and in may of this year i started taking the drug, supplementing this with T-gel an AC copper peptides spray.

During the first 3-4 months on the treatment i did shed, significantly more than usual and, to be honest, i was worried that i had done the wrong thing by taking propecia. During the last few months however i had noticed that my hairloss has almost completely stopped. I hardly ever find hair on the comb and pillow and when i do wash my hair only the occasional hair is sighted. I am though concerned that i am about to experience more shedding like other users here (7-10months) and if this happens my crown and temples will be very noticable under certain lighting. My hair appears thicker but it is very difficult to tell and i am wondering wether to wait it out until 10 months/1yr or maybe add minoxidil now and see if it will increase regrowth?

any comments will be great.

Wait it out...if you're worried about further shedding then minoxidil will only make it worse. Chances are you're about to get some regrowth anyway...there's no reason to expect you will shed in months 7-10 (but you might, you never know). Just keep taking your finasteride and relax.

I agree with skaff. If you are actually worried about shedding you shouldn´t start minoxidil at all since it is known for causing a shed more often than Propecia.

Some people on Propecia shed after 3 months, some after 10 months and many never experience any shedding at all.

I am also waiting until the one year mark to see how much regrowth propecia gives me and decide then about adding minoxidil if I ain´t satisfied with the results Propecia is giving me so far. You should do the same! Good Luck!

cheers guys, i have been through most of the forums on here and have read that in order for you to regrow hair you must shed, im just worried that it will happen (if at all) all in one go...

anyway will keep the faith and try and get some pics on here soon.

Sorry, but where did you get that? Yes a shed CAN be a good sign for regrowth, but you can also get some regrowth WITHOUT a shed.

i've read that miniturized hair shafts must shed in order for thicker hairs to re-grow in their place.

the hair on my crown isn't noticably thin when dry but because its quite short it does look thin when wet, what do you currently take and how long was it before you started to see results if any?

danke

Hey Bilbo,

yes, a shed can be a good sign, but sometimes people shed also good hair and never see regrowth. Take a look at this poll:
http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... viewresult

The results are pretty frightening and I am hoping I don´t see any shed in the future.......

I am only four months into treatment with 1 mg Finasteride daily plus some dietary supplements (Green Tea Extract, Silica, Multivitamines,......) and my result so far is the maintenance of my Norwood 2 hairline which has stayed exactly the same for the last four months. Sadly, I have seen some overall thinning during this time, but I guess this was just normal male pattern baldness shedding and not a finasteride shed.

So I am gonna wait until the one year mark and then decide whether I am gonna make further additions such as minoxidil or not.

Btw, don´t see me as an expert. In July I knew nothing about hair loss, all I know by now I got from other users here at HairLossTalk.com.

yeah i've seen those results aswell but to be honest they are a small number of people and i don't think it as accurate as some may think...

think of it this way - if there was a forum about an STD for example you would intially participate through worry and during/trialing treatment. if it cleared up you wouldn't come back and say "everythings great, no more herpes" would you. I honestly believe that if they did a forum of say 1000 people with male pattern baldness or any type of hairloss the results would be similar to the studies done by merk...it won't work for everybody but the stats are in the majorities (and i hope to be one of these) favour.

i pray my hair doesn't shed and i thin even further because for the time being i must admit that my hairloss seems to have stopped and thickened, its only month 7 so who knows, if i regrow even a little hair i will be more than happy but if i just maintain then its better than the way i was headed.

what type of hairloss do you have?

Well, you are definetly right that one shouldnt take such polls for granted, but same can be said about studies done by Merck itself. For instance I can´t believe that only 2-3% of all finasteride users experience side effects, there are just too many of them complaining about libido loss or Erectile dysfunctions. I am not very experienced myself so I can´t give that much of an advice, I am just telling you how I see it. But I think you are doing the right thing to fight your hair loss.

I am 2 according to the Norwood-Hamilton scale with diffuse thinning all over my head. Here you can see my story and the pictures on page 4.

My main problem at the moment is my high hairline. I am still praying that it will grow back some day.

i think with any treatment you have to give it a fair go...

i'm a little surprised by how many people on this forum expect results any sooner than at least 6-8 months. If they had an understanding of how the treatment works then surely they wouldn't look for any kind of regrowth before this time.

i still find it wierd though how one day i can look in the mirror and think "its really getting better" and the next day i look i think "this could be a waste of time"...although this weekend i actually styled my hair before going out and it looked pretty cool, even pulled a few cheeky ladies...sweetpipe!

...although i washed it last night and when it dried my immediate thought was "its only marginally better, if at all". anyway, still way to early to tell so heres hoping.
