Big 3 Story after 7 Months... FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE

I'm 23, about 70KG, slight hairloss, maintained my full head of hair... 7 MONTHS so far....

BUT with side effects.....

Please READ:

After taking Proscar 1.25, Minoxidil 5% 2 ML twice daily and using Nizoral 2-3 Times a week, I have noticed a number of side effects that have affected me quite a lot..

Proscar: Brain fog and depression... Not being able to think precisely, from when I first started (Pharmist told me side effects can happen at anytime, not just at the start)

SOLUTION: Taking little Proscar now.. .25 a day (still progressing to feel 100% MIND CONTROL) BE CAREFUL, I REALLY FELT DEPRESSED, and I'm not like that at all, lost creativity and imagination.. no drive like I used to.. so if this happens I would suggest reduce dosage and stay off it for a few days..

Minoxidil: After 7 Months, 2ML's a day, slightly reduced to 1ML a day around the 5 Month mark. Started to get sore eyes, and slight black eyes.. This was really painful and shocked me.. I quickly stopped minoxidil, from the pain, and went to the doctor for some eye ointment.. (Again side effects can start at anytime, not just at the start of use)

SOLUTION: Trying 2% minoxidil 1 ML a day

Quite disappointed, as my hairloss is improving a lot.. Pretty much maintained a full head of hair.. Just hate the side effects, which came after 5-6-7 Months..

Anyone know a vitaman that you can take to boost your energy, or something like that, so you don't get the depression, brain fog using propecia?? Thanks

What do you mean by brain fog? You say loss of creativity, imagination. These are very vague complaints, some concrete examples would be helpful. What type of work do you do?

When I say brain fog I mean like responding as quick as usual, being able to think and react like normal, without delay, slight depression, feeling apathy, and not like myself. This is why I reduced the dosage.. But even at a lower dosage, still getting it.. I'm thinking Propecia is in my body.. So I should hang off for a week or two and gradually start again? Any suggestions?

I recently spoke to the pharmist who I told about my sitution, and how propecia can change the hormones, reduce DHT... He recommended to try Zinc Supplement.. as It will boost my production of testosorone.. So I'm currently trying this, will get back with the results.

Also would Saw Palmetto be a good alternative for the a short time..?

Without a blood test, you're speculating that your testosterone levels are not normal. Zinc is not going to boost your libido. If Propecia is having as many serious side effects as you claim and causing you depression, you should stop taking it.

I've had a blood test and my testorone levels are good. I'm using Zinc currently to produce more testorone, as the amount converting to DHT is probably to little. DHT is needed all in the body.. So if you reduce it too much, then it can have affects on other parts of the body..

Zinc will not cause you to produce more testosterone. Keep in mind that many men take 5 mg of Finasteride every day without problems. My guess is whatever problems you are having are not related to Finasteride.

Well if I don't take propecia for a day or more, I don't get brain fog. I've never had brain fog before or the like. DHT is used for other things in the body as well, so if we reduce it too much then it can have side effects... Been many reports about this, as seen in my extensive research.

I had the same problem with 1mg. When I changed to proscar to save money, it got even worse.

Now, I take 0.5mg/day, and side effects are zero.

DHT is a neuro- active hormone. Research has linked DHT depletion to depression.
My doctor said that to deal with side effects you should try the following:

1. change brand. Even though the substance is the same, the companies make them differently. For some weird reason, people who get side effects from propecia, get none with generic finasteride and vice versa. There are other stuff in the pill besides finasteride you could react to. Changing brands could prevent this.

2. take pill in the evening, not in the morning. Testosterone levels are low in the morning, and increases throughout the day. Same goes for DHT. Not getting this increase, could affect your mood. Even if serum DHT is considerably less when you´re on finasteride, you will still get an icrease through the day, and for some people this helps.

3. reduce intake frequency. Try taking 1mg every other day, or have a one day brake between two days of taking finasteride. Even try three weeks on 1mg/day, and one week off. DHT works differently throughout your body. Allowing DHT levels to rise once in a while, could be good for your brain and sperm, but would not be around long enough to affect hair.

4.reduce intake dosage. 0.5mg/day instead of 1.mg. Oldest trick in the book when dealing with side effects. Serum DHT will not differ that much from 1mg, but there´s a relationship between dosage and half life. Half life of finasteride is 6 hours. On 1mg, more finasteride is in your blood after 6 hours than when you take 0.5mg.
This would alow DHT to rise more quickly, when finasteride is metaolized. Again, this could be good for your brain and sperm, but not be enough to affect your hair.

Thanks Todd. Very much appreciated. I haven't tried the propecia tablets, only proscar.. I usually take it in the morning as well.. Ashley and Martin consultant, told me to take in the morning because thats when we have the most DHT.. Geez you hear some facts.. don't u! I might try propecia next time, the real stuff.. But proscar is fine so far.

I'm currently taking just 0.2MG or less I did it every second day for a while, and feel much better.. Man I was depressed and felt bad for a while there, when taking 1.25MG proscar.. It was like proscar took over my brain.. and controlled my body.. Not a good experience..

What about Saw Palmetto.. I was thinking of taking this every alternative day or something? Any ideas?

Are you maintaining your hair? And how long have you been on it for? Minoxidil as well?

My doctor said DHT islow in the morning, high in the day, and low in the night; and thus taking finasteride at night would allow for a little increase. Maybe it´s really high in the morning and decreases throughout the day, who knows?
Yeah, you get to hear a lot off "facts" :dunno:

I take 0.5mg every day, along with rogaine 2 times a day and nizoral every other day.
I´ve been on propecia since 2005. Cut down the dosage almost 5 months ago.
I seem to mantain what I have (wich thankfully is quite a lot), and get thicker hair, but no significant regrowth. Regrowing at the temples is almost impossible anyways, from what I´ve heard.

Saw palmetto, yeah..
There´s only ONE clinical trial with saw palmetto, and you can find it here
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1200 ... d_RVDocSum

However, it´snot a very large trial group, and the 6/10 with "improvement", well....

Men's testosterone levels are highest in the morning. It would make sense that DHT would be highest in the morning as well.

Brain fog due to reduced DHT and hormonal imbalance is not only common, but a well documented side with finasteride, as increased levels of dht and other androgens can contrastingly create euphoria. This seems to be especially prevalent in young men, and I can say, without a doubt, I experienced massive brain fog and decreased libido on finasteride.

However at the same time, I was massively shedding, which I did not realize was a good thing at the time. I was 22 at this time. I am now 31, considering starting finasteride again, and scared to death to experience the same massive libido reduction and brain fog I felt before.

Absolutely The Skunk.. Definitely felt brain fog, libido, no euphoria for life. I was just so surprised because finasteride was working well for 5 months, definitley help my hair stablise and regrowth.. Then I started getting side effects.. Now im just taking finasteride every 2-3 days a week and im only taking .1 to .2MG...

I'm going to start rivogen and see how that goes... I'm also taking some saw palmetto every few days..

Weird, I recently took baby steps back onto propecia before getting hair transplant, and my side effects are opposite. I feel better and my libido is up... but I am 8 years older now, and my body has changed a lot. I was 23, and am now 31. I have some other very odd effects from the propecia this time as well, such as decreased earwax and chest/body hair pulling out easily. My very bad effects were from taking 1/5 a proscar, now I'm on finpecia.

I have been taking the revivogen and can't say what it does either way, but I can definitely say:

1) rogaine foam is causing my hair to change for the better, and my eyebrows to grow in a strange fashion
2) I am going back to xandrox 15 because I took the original when I was 21/22 and it helped restore my hair quite nicely to the point I was able to get off meds entirely for awhile, but I was also taking some "anabolic enhancers" at the time that threw off my hormonal balance.
