Beyond the Big 3

Hello all,

I am debating about adding an additional weapon to my arsenal. I currently use finasteride, minoxidil (xandrox technically), and nizoral in the recommended doses. These seem to be the main stay of many. What is the next most popular (and hopefully effective) treatment? I am considering using some sort of copper peptide product, but I have blonde hair and I am worried it will turn in green as some report. Any thoughts on this modification?

I believe copper peptides have the best chance in my case since I am a diffuse thinner, which I feel is partly caused by a "thinning" of the layer of skin between scalp and skull. Copper peptides have been shown to stimulate collagen production which I am hoping will increase the thickness of my skin on the top of my head to bring it back into line with the rest of the scalp. Any other thinners, diffuse or otherwise, notice this trend as well?

Thanks,
MW

PS: this may be old news but Newsweek put out a mini- hair loss article in which one expert speculated that hair cloning could be available within 5 years! We just have to hold out until then!

Yah, and save up $ until then..

What you are using should be enough. There is no reason to add things, costing you both time and money, untill you have found they aren't. The more complicated your regimen, the less you will know about what is actually helping and what is not.

So how long have you been on treatments and what are your results?

Yeah that is sound advice. It is just so tempting to keep adding things... :)

So I have been on my treatments for about 10 months now, but I tinkered with them a ton in the beginning, especially the minoxidil. I started with rogaine but that stuff was hell on my scalp. I basically had an allergic reaction to the ppg I believe. I scratched my scalp vigorously while asleep and when I would wake up my pillow would be covered with dead skin and hair. That was fairly traumatic to say the least! Anyway, after about 2 months on that (which probably set me back 4 months from all the additional hair loss) I switched to Dr. Lee's stuff and played with a bunch of his formulations. Xandrox that is ppg free worked the best for me. Been steady on that for about 6 months. I use the 15% uber-sh*t about every other day and only on temples and vertex; thats I can stand without flaking badly.

Now as far as results, it is hard to say. I am definitely still noticably thinning, but that is too be expected after 6 years of non-treatment (started balding when I was 18 ). However, I feel more confident in my appearance and I think with my hair short, it is much harder to tell. I think basically I have regrown a ton of short/fine hairs; with my hair (blonde) cut to a few millimeters, it can look pretty solid in the right light. :) Also, recently my hair loss rate has dropped to "normal levels" (under 100 hairs a day; approximately equal amounts from all parts of my head). I think I may just have been a late responder. I guess I am a data point that encourages people to give their treatments at least a year, especially those who play around a lot at the beginning.

I wouldnt mind posting pictures showing my progress, but the comparison would be some what dubious due to different hair length/angles. Maybe it would interest some though. Can I post pics of arbitrary size to this forum in my message?

Thanks,
MW
