Best Ways to Slow Loss/Thinning?

Hello everyone. I am 23 and have been loosing my hair since around 17, very slowly. I have been on finasteride 1mg since around 19, but my hair seems to continue to slowly thin and lately it has seemed to pick up in speed (thinning faster).

I've never wanted to use rogaine really due to the shedding and dependency, but maybe I just need to get over it? I have tried to use Nizoral but I feel like it makes my hairloss worse? Probably just being paranoid and should use it..I have a decent crown and some diffuse thinning, but mainly just a receeding hairline.

I want to have an FUE transplant soon, but its hard to get one when I'm still thinning you know? And I don't really want to use rogaine because then I have to keep using it after my transplant.

Any thoughts on ways to slow thinning or why the rate of thinning would have picked up even though I am on finasteride? The hairs at the front of the hairline are small and weak feeling...finasteride is supposed to thicken those hairs up I thought.

If finasteride isn't halting it your only option is probably to look into experimental antiandrogens like RU58841 and CB-03-01 that have a chance of being at least as effective as finasteride.

Minoxidil might give you a bit of thickening, but ultimately you need to halt the loss at the androgenic level, so you may be right in holding off using it if you're in it for the long haul and want to be able to tell what's working.

Oh and ignore anyone who tells you to use anything like spironolactone/revivogen. If finasteride isn't doing it then these sort of weak treatments certainly won't help.

Minoxidil should give you some regrowth and thickening, plus help to maintain aswell.
Its better to have hair dependant on the minoxidil, then to have no hair at all.
Hair dependancy is like signing a contract, something you've already done with finasteride, if you stop that you get the same effect.
It's no less convienient to use minoxidil. I put it on once before bed and after a few months I started to notice new hair, with no noticable shedding really.
Give it a try.

Yeah I guess you are right about it being better to have the hair, the problem I see with it is that I have some worsening diffuse thinning (so like not on the hairline but behind it) I have blonde hair so its not very noticeable but still could be an issue. That's why I wanted to find a way to stop the hairloss everywhere and not just on the hairline with minoxidil. I do have 3 foam cans of rogaine just sitting around that I was always scared to use...

If I just have to use it at night it wouldn't be a big deal though.

Also, I can't even find where to buy those two other antiandrogens..

How long have you been on finasteride? It causes shedding for the first couple months and then the hair grows back thicker than before. This happens with all hair loss treatments. Think of it as a cleansing process.

I've been on finasteride for around 4 years...ha. I wish I could count on the shed and thicker hair growing back in, that would be nice! haha

Dang im about exactly the same. Probably started slowly loosing hair at 17 and im 23 now and my hairline isn't receding anymore but i have alot of diffuse thinning. Just got on finasteride today and been on rogaine for 2 months, shedding cycle atm meh.

Have you had your thyroid checked out? Mine might be slightly overactive but i don't think its causing my hair to thin out. Blonde hair to :)

Yeah I am going to start Rogaine soon I guess. I have had my thyroid checked and all levels were found to be completely normal.
