I wear a French lace system with poly borders around the side and back.
I’ve recently changed some things in my rebonding routine. The biggest change was that I stopped using bonding/glue altogether so was only using tape.
Removing bonding from my routine made for an incredibly easy clean up. Cleaning the system itself is super quick with hardly any mess to deal with, it’s great.
the problem is that itchiness has become a real issue since I made this change. I think it’s probably because the system is looser on my head without the extra hold from the glue and that’s causing a lot of irritation.
yesterday I rebonded and the redness was worse than ever. I’m not able to stop wearing or take a break because I’m always working and around people. The redness usually goes away by itself but I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on how best to reduce it in general?
steps I’m going to take from now on include:
• Applying a small amount of bonding again to the very back and near(ish) the front of the system. Using tape on the actual hairline has been a game changer for me in terms of maintenance (dramatically reduced it) and I don’t want to go back to only using glue there and having to clean it every two days.
• Reduce the time between rebonding. At the moment I change every two weeks. My new plan is to change roughly every 10 days. The last 4 days are when things rapidly deteriorate for me anyway.
• minimise the time I have cleaning agents on my scalp. Yesterday I think I left some things on my scalp for too long. I also tried shaving my head before shampooing just to save time but I’m going to revert back to shampooing asap after cleaning and then shaving.
Big question - what’s the last thing you use on your scalp during rebonding: shampoo or alcohol and why? I should say second last because I use scalp protector last but I’m curious it’s see if using shampoo/alcohol second last makes a difference at all(?)
thanks in advance for any insights
