Hey folks,
Some history/background,
I have been using Minoxidil 2% since 1988 when NYU was the first to offer it in NYC. I then switched to minoxidil 2% with .025% tretinoil (retin A) with Dr Adam Lewenberg. I have to admit it helped alot. I then started using Propecia in August 99 and have never missed a dosage since. I recently started using the combo again in 1/06 without PPG and it has helped with managibility but no major growth. My hair has stabilized and I progressed to a Norwood 2, with irregular temple recession. Right > left. I recently had 1491 grafts, 50 grafts/cm2 on 7/24/06 with DR COle and am waiting for them to grow in then I will reassess if I need more.

My objective is that I need to know your opinions and experiences as to what is the best and most appropriate topical I should be using now. I dont know much about Dr Lees stuff mainly b/c there is just too much crap for sale on that website and I cant use all of it and I dont have the time to experiement with each and every one. I do worry about high minoxidil concentrations and the deleterious effects it could have internally on the cardiovascular system. I also worry about the non scientific studies out there that many of these posters rely on as so called "research." So please chime in as to what is the best topical.

Let's try to keep it objective and informative. No pissing contests please.

Thanks,

LG

If you are willing to use minoxidil 2%, why don't you buy the 5% and dilute it with everclear to make 3% or 2.5%. You will save a lot of money and get the same vehicle but a bit stronger. I like to use 2mL per application, so $7 per bottle can get a bit pricy.

Of course I'd save money by cutting back on my dutas if I knew the grafefruit juice would slow the metabolism of it enough.

Not exactly sure what you mean. I dont have a problem with 5% minoxidil, it's the PPG that makes it greasy. I was looking into Dr Lees without PPG.
The reason why I am looking elsewhere is b/c I theink the retin A/monix combo may not be enough and my body may have accommodated to it.
Go on about the dilution.

If you can get 5% minoxidil, which is a solution with 30% alcohol, 50% PG, 5% minoxidil, and 15% water, for $7 per bottle, but the PG is too greasy,

and you currently buy 2% minoxidil (in you regimen), which is 30% PG, 50% alcohol, 18% water, and 2% minoxidil, for $7 per month,

why not buy 750mL of everclear for $15 and use 30mL each (1/25 the volume, so less than a dollar) to dilute a 5% minoxidil bottle 50% to two 2.5% minoxidil bottles?

Then you would have 25% PG (less than in the 2%), 10% water, 2.5% minoxidil, and 62.5% ethanol. For just over $4 per bottle. I could get a gallon of everclear 190 proof for $40, but I did not want to ride that far when the 750mL will last me 6 months with my other concoctions. I'll get the gallon later when I have more time. If I get the gallon I can get down to almost half price, and then use twice as much.

The higher ethanol ratio means more minoxidil absorption total and in less time, if the minoxidil studies Bryan talked about used propylene glycol as the other solvent. They found that minoxidil absorption peaked at 90% ethanol. I don't know the minoxidil dose or what the other liquid was. Obviously if it was water, then PG might be better. It is possible that PG is used to make a 5% solution only because minoxidil it can dissolve 7% minoxidil, whereas ethanol can dissolve only 2.9%.

Don't ask presumptive questions or order me about. If you don't want cheaper 2% minoxidil or think it is obvious that twice as much minoxidil will grow more hair, then you can discard my advice.

Why are you so upset that I don't give in to your every whim? Ever since I said no to your last request, you've been throughing a tantrum. And now that I give you some good advice, since your regimen says you use 2% minoxidil, you critize my advice and I just put you in your place. Surely you think 2.5% is better than 2%. Why pay $7 when you could pay $4? The solutions are very similar. You don't give up easy when you just want to argue for the sake of arguing.

WTF are you talking about....giving in????? Asking to post picks and this concoction are 2 different things. Grow up already. I dont believe you fully answered my questions stated above. FOR THE RECORD, I TAKE 2% minoxidil WITH RETIN A. SO YOU DIDNT READ THE ORIGINAL POST CAREFULLY...DID YOU?

You shouldn't treat college like sh*t because he literally is the sh*t around here.

Bryan and College really seem to know their stuff.

He is only trying to help you so don't be such an a**h** dude.

There is at least a handful of guys on here with some really good info. I just go around repeating a hundred times. That is why my posts are so high, though some people like lookinggood! would rather I just let newbies do their own searching. But I come up with some good stuff of my own in my areas of expertise.

Please take note, personal attacks are a sign of poor intelligence in a conversation.

You have no basis for that statement. Best of luck to you.

But you are a newbie who never answers the question when challenged. You only believe what you want to and say what you want to. I am still waiting for an answer regarding the everclear. I bet you didnt once think that by drinking grapefruit juice would increase the absorption of propecia thus putting me at risk for side effects...did you ever think that? No because you are not a qualified scientist or doctor. So is that sound advise for a newbie let alone myself?????

I am not attacking you just giving you constructive criticism that you fail to channel in a positive way.

it's a figure of speech. you will never get it ever!

I really like how you avoid all issues, questions directed to you. I dont know if you realize it but you have OCD and you see nothing else but what you want to see and hear.

LookingGood,

Nice avatar.

Anyway, I was reading your regimen and I think you have everything pretty much covered out. You are taking one of the best copper peptide products (tricomin) and the bread and butter dht blocker finasteride. You are also doing nizoral, among other stuff.

You could try the new rogaine foam, I read wonderful "application" stories with this stuff. By that I mean it dries real fast, so in other words, you wont be sitting at home waiting 3 hours in order to leave. I have not tried it myself though but you bet I'll switch once I finish what I have left of minoxidil.
