So can anyone point me to the right direction?

after alot of research, i think for the conditioner im goin to roll with the nixion scalp therapy conditioner, its gotten alot of positive reviews

http://www.amazon.com/Nioxin-Therapy-Co ... _sim_hpc_7

shampoo wise ima start with this because its free

This is going to be long as it's actually one of my favorite topics. My feeling is that you have to alternate shampoos that have DHT reducing properties with those that make your hair look the best.

Thanks for the info on Aveda Pure Abundance. Is it best to order it from the Aveda site or Amazon? Amazon has it with free shipping if you order another $7 worth of products.

I just checked Aveda's site and noticed that they make a load of great stuff. Their dandruff product even contains salicylic acid. Has anyone used the Aveda Pure-formance for men? I'm not sure if it makes the hair feel thicker, but the reviews on the site all say it smells great. :)

Here's a list of the shampoos that I alternate:

Dr. Proctor's Nano Shampoo - the most expensive but leaves my hair feeling the thickest. One bottle usually lasts me a year as I first lather with a cheaper shampoo, rinse, and then put a small (dime size) amount of Nano on for several minutes in the shower. I only use this about 3x a week though, as per the instructions.

Nizoral/occasionally 2% Ketoconazole

Nutrogena T-Gel

Toppik and Couvre shampoo from Spencerforrest.com - Along with the Toppik conditioner, these shampoos really do make the hair feel thicker, as do the quite expensive Toppik fibers that's probably used throughout TV and the film industry.

Jason's Thin to Thick shampoo. Their Biotin shampoo is pretty good, too.
I've also read great things about the ingredients in their tea tree products.

Alterna Life Restore Shampoo for Thinning Hair - This shampoo has been discontinued, but I managed to buy a 32 oz bottle online several years ago.
It's a shame Alterna no longer produces this line because it contained Azelaic Acid, Niacin and Zinc Gluconate. The shampoo can still be found on websites, but their new product is called Alterna Life Solutions Volume Restore Shampoo.
It has some fof the same ingredients as the discontinued product, but I'm not sure if it's being advertised as "DHT reducing" as was the previous formulation.

Other products that I've used and liked are Tricomin and Nioxin. Those are said to have DHT reducing properties, as does Revivogen's shampoo, which also made my hair feel thicker.

As far as conditioners go, my feeling is that they usually smooth the hair and make it feel thinner. The one exception is Toppik. Their conditioner actually makes my hair feel thicker after use. I'm really surprised that Spencerforrest.com doesn't add any ingredients that are said to have DHT reducing properties to their products, as the whole company caters to men with thinning hair.

I hope that this post wasn't overly long for this forum. I have several questions myself. Has anyone tried Revita shampoo? Is the Organix line helpful for thinning hair? They make some very good smelling stuff. Would the coconut oil shampoo or their trea tree products be beneficial in any way?

thanks for your post, im a college student and im on a budget which kinda sucks. I think for the most part ima roll with pure abundance and the nizoral , and alternative between the those two. the nano shampoo is so tempting, but i wont be able to afford the pure abundance and the nano so i dont know what to do . if im paying 80 bucks for a shampoo/conditioner, it needs to be really worth it so could you give me some more advice?

as conditioner wise, do you think staying away from nioxin is a good choice then? they've had some really excellent reviews

I sent you a PM regarding a less expensive version of Nano found here:

http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements ... ampoo.html

In regard to Nioxin (and Tricomin), when I used them, I think I read that the conditioners were part of the whole program. If it's recommended, then you should use the conditioner, too. I'm not sure how effective they are, but if you're using Minoxidil and/or Finasteride, the least you want from the shampoos is to make your hair feel thicker and look better after drying. Haven't alot of these shampoos started using some of Proctor's ingredients like the copper peptides?

Hey dude, I'm currently using the newly packaged 'Alterna LIFE Solutions Volume Restore Shampoo' It still contains Azeliac Acid, Niacin, Saw Palmetto Fruit Extract etc..

While it is sometimes compared to Finasteride, I am reserved about the effectiveness of Saw Palmetto in any product, I know the others are proven and researched means of inhibition of DHT to some level.

I just wanted to ask, while you were using this product, were you using any forms of hairloss treatment as well, only since I've been using it the rate in which I'm losing hair has practically trebled. I've been on it for approximately 6 weeks now although I can't say exactly. But it's taken 'thinning' to 'oh sh**' and could the ingredients be causing me to shed, and perhaps improve my hair somewhat, if only a little?

I'm unsure as to how to go about resolving the issue, I feel that I've already been waiting it out to see improvement in hair fall but to no avail, would it make much more impact if I began Minoxidil or would the 'shedding' if that's what it is currently become even more great.

My current regimen is only this shampoo and conditioner. I stopped using Nizoral twice weekly when I began this shampoo but I began using it again last week. So far no improvement in hairfall. And some multi-vitamins.

It made my hair thicker to begin with and really gave it a massive boost in volume, but I lose so much now during the course of a week that I don't really notice its volumising properties.
What were your experiences with the shampoo?
