Hi,

I am looking into this and interested in knowing the benefit of Retin-A. Is it applied topically ? I know it might not do a great deal but interested in knowing from those who are currently using it. How many times a day/week and how much.

Thanks

For the skin or the hair?

My minoxidil contains some retinol, I don't know if ot's helping.

I apply a topical retinol cream on my face most nights before bed. I've only been doing it for a week, so I don't know if it's helping yet.

I think retin-A is slow and takes a long time to be effective.

Note: it's just a type of vitamin A. Might be an argument for people to consume more different sources of vitamin A, as opposed to just carrots (Beta-Carotene). Liver is a great source of other kinds of vitamin A, to bad it tastes offal.

Can you tell me some more about retin-a? Are you using it for acne or any other specific problems? I've read that It might be good to use even without acne or wrinkles etc. I am thinking about buying some even though I don't have acne.

Also, where did you get it?

I think I bought this one:

I bought it at CVS.

I apparently have nice facial skin, and I wanted to keep it that way. I'm now using sunscreen most mornings, and retinol most nights. I should have started the sunscreen when I was ~20.

I have not researched skin care as hard as I have hair loss, and I don't want to: too much work. I'm using retinol and sunscreen because I'm told they're the two most proven ingredients for skin. I want to prevent wrinkle development. Some claim vitamin C also helps as a topical so I will be adding it soon.

I used to have acne on my face but it's mostly gone to the point that it's no longer an issue. I still have acne on my upper back, but it's much better than it was a year ago. I've been very agressive in dealing with it. Here's what I've used:
- Salicyclic acid 2% topical in the shower, leave on for ten minutes;
- 2.5% benzoic acid + 0.5% adapalene, leave on topical before bed;
- For a while was also applying 5% or 10% (don't remember) benzoic acid in the shower, leave-on for ~10 minutes, on alternating days (mostly) with salicyclic acid. For some reason it's hard to get those two ingredients together;
- Zinc oxide + castor oil, leave on topical in the morning. Warning: it stains shirts. But I think it works well.
- A lot of weight loss and intermittent fasting;
- Trying not to wear heavy straps from backpacks, etc around to frequently. I try to keep my backpack lighter;

Thanks! Nice that It's working for you.

I'm 24, and my skin Isn't flawless in any way. Thats why I'm thinking about buying some. From what I understand there are no downsides in taking it, except that your skin mighy get dry and irritated?

As far as I know.

Accutane is a cousin if Retinol, it's a different vitamin A, and it causes a lot of side effects but is also very effective.

Thanks everyone for responding. I read that Retin A increases minoxidil absorption. Is it true ? So I can put this first and minoxidil on top of it ?
