Been on finasteride for 9 months. Should I start minoxidil?

1 mg finasteride per day for 9 months now and diffuse thinner. 3-4 months was peak of my hair. Now its thinning again for almost two months and is probably at its worst. I have hope for it to come back stronger and thicker but it's quite depressing looking at it. Should I give it another 3 months and reassess or should I be aggressive with it? The horror stories of facial aging scares me away from using minoxidil. I don't want to have another reason to be sad

I wish I did. It was thicker on months 3-4 and I stopped giving it a second thought. But these last two months, it has thinned again and I have hope for it to grow back thicker but it's demoralizing to see. All I take is 1 mg finasteride and nizoral. I wasn't going to hop on minoxidil unless it was a last resort but I'm not sure if I should give it a year on finasteride or battle it now. Any suggestions?

finasteride won't regrow hair. I started brand name rogaine foam after ~a year of finasteride and I'm glad I did. However, keep these things in mind:

-Rogaine is a bigger commitment than finasteride. Be prepared to dedicate 5-15 minutes every morning & night to applying it.
-The liquid contains PPG and you might get sides. The foam does not, but costs more (e.g., 3 months for under $40 is a good deal).
-If you stop rogaine you will lose your gains.

Also, finasteride sheds come and go. You will mostly likely go back to where you were at the 3-4 month mark, then later shed and thin again, then thicken, then thin, then thicken... Don't stress about it.

From your experience jhcl , how long are your sheds ? I experience shedding for the first 3 months and then regrowth at 4 and resume shedding I'm close to month 6 hair is less dense and weak

Once a day is fine. Just use more than the recommended amount.

I've seen people on here with pictures suggesting finasteride can in fact regrow hair.

Agreed. finasteride will regrow hair, but its not common. finasteride will thicken existing hair, and regrowth is typically 20-30% around the crown (from what I have read)
