Been on finasteride 0.25 mg for almost 3.5 years. Should I go to 0.5

I've had definite success with 0.25 mg finasteride daily, for almost 3.5 years. I started Ro foam almost 1.5 years ago with no real visible results. I'd like to fill in a little more of my crown area, and I seem to shed almost constantly.

I've seen the DHT inhibition chart that shows anywhere from 0.2 mg to 5 mg of finasteride to have the same relative efficacy.

It would seem logical to stay on 0.25 mg but I'd like to maximize benefits without the sides. That's why all things considered, 0.5 mg may work a little better...perhaps.

Any advice or experience?

well if you have good results i wouldn't change the regimen the study shows that increasing the dose to 0.5mg has a benefit but a small one

describe the shedding, is it rapid?, have you been shedding regularly or just started shedding once

my gut instinct is that you have telogen effluvium which is a temporary condition where your hair sheds and usually it fixes itself, saying that there could be a reason for it, like illness, medication or even things like huge amounts of stress
the best way to treat Telogen Effluvium is to find the underlying cause because it will come back otherwise
i think seeing a trichologist if you have Telogen Effluvium and it's keeps happening

on the other hand if you are showing what are signs of male pattern baldness progressing such as hair receding following the pattern or diffusing gradually then by all means increase your dose

It's definitley male pattern baldness. runs on both sides of my family.

Should not make a big difference but increasing the dose will guarantee that maximum effectiveness of finasteride will occur. The reason Merck studies picked 1mg was that each individual responds differently.
