I've always wanted to do this.. For a number of reasons, barbershops make me uncomfortable is one, second.. No matter what it's hit or miss on haircuts for me. At least in my eyes.. Just curious if any guys on here do this.. Not talking about just shaving your head obviously.

Only thing I could do that looked decently acceptable would be a buzzcut or maybe thinning the back and sides. I can't imagine managing to line up the fringe.

Yeah I cut my own hair. I don't do it all at once, just a little bit here, a little bit there.

You don't attempt it anymore?

Not since I noticed my male pattern baldness after a Telogen Effluvium shed 6 months ago, I haven't even had a haircut lol.
Actually I only buzzed once when I was younger and although it looked fine, just like a normal cut, because it was so short my friends told me it didn't suit me. If a short cut doesn't suit me baldness definitely wouldn't. I look best with medium length hair and the front styled upward to make up for the slight fivehead and I definitely could not do a haircut like that. I should probably try thinning the back and sides as they've started to get longer than the scalp hair.

I like that approach.. Also, Hairloss23, what's a "Telogen Effluvium shed"?

Tellogen Effluvium. It is basically when an awful lot of hair falls out all in one go, like hundreds of thousands of hairs. Happened to me mid 2015 although I'm not sure what induced it as I wasn't very stressed in the months leading up to it which is what the usual cause is. It could've been a steroid based cream I was using for psoriasis at the time. Anyway the Telogen Effluvium shed is what made me notice my male pattern baldness and kicked me out of the denial phase I had been in for a couple of months, I was NW1 in early 2015 so luckily I wasn't in the denial phase for long at all.

I've been cutting my own hair for 3 years. I've gotten quite good at it and it's saved me a lot of money.

cut my hair once when I was in high school and no male pattern baldness, thought it looked great imo. First friend I saw that day "you cut your own hair? it looks ****ed up".

Yeah, going to a barber shop is a reminder of how bald you actually are. I always get a shock when the hairdresser wets my hair and combs it back. It's like "I know I've lost some hair but holy **** I look about 60 when he does that"!
On the other hand cutting my own hair could be disaster so better leve it to the professionals.

I'm going to gradually learn to do it on myself.. grow it longer first and start learning by keeping it trimmed.
