Hello everyone,
I have now been on propecia for over a year and I have been on Nizoral for several months. As I stated in my original post on page 1 I feel I have had very negative results since going on propecia. If you look at the pictures from May 1st 2007 in comparison to the current pictures (May 11th 2008) you will see my hairline has receded drastically. I recently just got back from a cruise and I was very embarrassed to see how thin my hair was in the pictures that were taken.
Has anyone experience negative results on propecia? I am trying to debate what to do now. I am trying to decide whether I should I get off propecia and try something else. Any feedback, advice, or comments is greatly appreciated.

I actually purchased 3 bottles of rogaine foam a few months ago, but I have yet to use them because I am afraid the rogaine will eat my hair even more. I am to the point where I can still hide my baldness in the front somewhat, so I will start using the rogaine when I can no longer hide my baldness anymore.

yeh the top definitely looks thicker... just the sides gone back a bit...
Just use rogaine on your receded sides to try it out.... its not got eath away at hair that is no longer there... just literally put it on the skin where the hair used to be....

Your temples have receded, but we cant see the top very well.You should try similar conditions(light,haircut,cosmetics placed on hair) when taking pics...easier to compare.
From what I see,top is thicker,though the light can be misleading.

Maybe I will just apply the rogaine to the skin where my hairs use to be and not worry about applying it actually on my hair.
I actually got a new camera after I took the originals, so the lighting/quality will be hard to get the same. I will try to take some more pictures to see if I can get a little better light.
I never really had major issues with the top of my head. I was only really concerned with the temples/front, so that is what I am really focusing on. From looking in the mirror and from the pictures taken it seems that my whole front is being eaten away and it seems to me that the propecia is accelerating my hair loss big time.

well the pictures are way too dark to say for sure but....
propecia does not work on the hairline - at least not for the vast majority. it will thicken up your crown/mid-scalp but you will continue to recede in the front. the propecia is not accelerating your frontal loss, but it's not helping it either. to be honest you still have lots of hair and if you grew it out a bit longer and started using some gel/wax (i swear by Bedhead Manipulator) you could conceal it quite well.
definitely consider adding minoxidil foam on the hairline - since you're going to lose it anyway why not go all out? i've been applying foam to the hairline coming up on 4 months and have not noticed any excessive shedding, though i can't say whether it's helping me maintain or not.

I guess I was under the impression that propecia was suppose to maintain your hair and I have not maintained my hair at all while I have been on it.

I have been buzzing my hair as of lately, but I am planning on growing my hair a little longer until I come to the point where I can't cover up my baldness anymore. I honestly feel like I can hide the receding hairline better by not putting anything in my hair rather then putting gel in it. How do you style your hair?treeshrew said:

Looks like overall you have been maintaining - you've just been losing ground on the front, where Propecia doesn't work as well, unfortunately. If you hadn't been on it for a year you'd probably be in way worse shape.
ya, depends on your hair type. i love this bedhead stuff because it dries in about 5-10 minutes but really thickens the hair - so it doesn't give you a "wet look" my hair looks totally fluffy and dry, but it is way thicker, stands up more, and doesn't get all messed up by the wind - the stuff is expensive ($17/can) but i highly recommend trying it when your hair is a bit longer.
I use rogaine foam - apply once a day, super easy. I suggest using the recommended half-cap full per application and don't be afraid to rub it into the hairline. Gotta stick with it though long term!

Even though my hair is longer in the current pictures you can get a general idea of what type of shape my hair is currently in. I have also been on nizoral 2 for about a year. Any feedback you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Gez. purely speculative, but you have to doubt he was on track to lose it this quick... bit scary actually seeings I'm trying to catch mine early while I still have a lot of my hair, but this doesn't instil confidence.
Hard to support that propecia helped here. Almost the opposite actually. How can finasteride make you lose hair?!
Seems like there is a lot of these stories cropping up lately, guys ho have rode out finasteride only for it to get worse. Seems these stories definitely pop up more often than the success stories

It is legit propecia that I purchased from Walgreens. I don't plan on going on minoxidil, because it is too much of a chore to have to apply it twice a day and after having such bad results from propecia I have lost faith in the meds.
My concern now is if I go off Propecia how will my hair respond. It seems that my hair can't get any worse. Has anyone heard of anyone having a positive reaction after they stop taking finasteride?

It only needs to be applied once at night really, saves it from being a huge hassle.
Yeah I've looked into this a bit, there are thousands of blokes out there who freak out and think propecia is destroying their hair, it is pretty common. A lot of blokes think they have that hypo andro whatever, only to find out their hair gets worse once they get off the stuff.
The thing is you initially got on finasteride because you were balding, and whether or not propecia helped/hindered that process, chances are it is going to continue when you get off the meds.
It is impossible to tell if you would be in at this stage if you never took the stuff, but a lot of guys seem to think it is worsening the problem and I reckon with where you are at now (on propecia for 2 yrs but going downhill) then it probably can't hurt to find out I guess?
Maybe it will get better, but being realistic, the research seems to say propecia helps and so if it still getting worse even with propecia, then I don't think it spells good things for what's in store for your hair.
