Does Azelaic acid work. Dr Lee told me this: Azelaic acid is an FDA approved medication and has been used for the treatment of acne. Many well-designed studies have proven that azelaic acid very effectively inhibits the synthesis of DHT. Xandrox has Azelaic acid. There are alot of other DHT "inhabitors" that he could use but he added Azelaic acid to the minoxidil, it's obvious he strongly believes in it, i am sure of that. But is he right?

It's FDA approved for the treatment of acne, yes. It is not FDA approved for use against male pattern baldness.

Wrong. There is exactly ONE study (by Stamatiadis) which has shown it to be a 5a-reductase inhibitor, and that was just an in vitro study. There is no in vivo study I'm aware of which ever showed topical azelaic acid to work as a 5a-reductase inhibitor.

I don't think he's right about it. He makes a lot of money selling it in Xandrox, and laughs all the way to the bank. But he's done that without bothering to wait for any scientific evidence that it works in vivo; when applied to living animals, in other words.

By the way, feel free to quote every word of this post to Dr. Lee, and be sure to give him my regards! :)

Is it possible that azelaic acid in the minoxidil can cause damage? It does cause some irritation/itching.
