I'm sad to report that after 20+ years of use, finasteride is no longer working for me.

I have experienced terrible shedding for the past few days, maybe stress is playing a big role (I live in Portugal and the COVID-19 quarantine is getting on my nerves).

I can't really complain because Proscar worked beautifully for more than 20 years: I started when I was 17, today I'm 43 years old and still a NW2.

Today I decided to start taking Avodart, I know it's an atomic bomb compared to Proscar but let's hope it's a success.

I'll keep you guys posted on the results. Fingers crossed!

20 years! What a run dude. Do you know how aggressive hairloss was? How bald do you think you would have been without it?

My hair loss started when I was 17 years old, it was extremely aggressive and I would be a full NW8 today if it weren't for Proscar. I believe I was one of the very first patients that tried it for baldness and it worked, thank God for that.

Proscar is not working anymore but I can't really complain, I'm 43 y.o. and still a NW2 (perfect crown, just a little bit of frontal recession).

I'm now taking Avodart every other day and I'm feeling very optimistic. In a couple of years, hopefully I will change to Breezula.

If you are a firm believer that your hairloss was extremely aggressive and that you would have been a full NW7 today - then it is really amazing that proscar worked for ALL those years. Congrats on your success, i hope avodart will keep you safe for some years to come.

A week has gone by, there is still shedding but hair looks thicker. Maybe it's dutasteride, maybe it's the shampoo, I can't really say. I'll keep you posted on this.

I have a similar story. A few years older. I used finasteride for 20+ yrs too. I still receded but barely compared to when i started. A great run. 8 months ago I noticed it started to lose effectiveness.

I added 1Dut + 6Fins- Crazy shed for first 6 weeks. stayed on this for 4months to make sure i didnt experience any other sides. No results.

Added 2Duts + 5Fins for last 4 months. No results

Just started 3 Duts (first week) but my derm wants me to eliminate finasteride all together. Fingers crossed.

There is still shedding but the hair looks definitely thicker and healthier. But yes, it's still early to draw any conclusions.

I wasn't referring to Avodart and I only said that the hair looked thicker and healthier (i.e. less greasy).

I started a whole new regime that also includes Nizoral shampoo, it's still too early to draw any conclusions on Avodart.

It's not surprising, many drugs lose efficacy over the years.

I used to take Cialis for ED and it also stopped working after many years. I now take Spedra and it works beautifully.

Hopefully I will be able to say the same thing about Avodart.

Almost a month has gone by and I don't know what to say.

Shedding has improved but not stopped. Hair looks much better.

I live in Portugal and the whole country is on lockdown because of COVID-19. I wonder if this has anything to do with my sudden shedding: maybe lack of sunlight and vitamin D?

Anyway, here's my current regimen:

- Avodart 0.5 mg daily
- Nizoral shampoo 2x week
- Klorane Quinine Shampoo daily
- Rene Furterer VITALFAN Supplement daily

It's official now: shedding has stopped, almost as suddenly as it began. It's undeniable. Hair looks much better and hopefully it will get even thicker.

Was it Avodart or the excellent (and expensive!) Klorane shampoos? Was it just stress that caused shedding or did finasteride really stop working? I've been going out and getting more sunlight lately, maybe that helped too.

I will continue with Avodart but I'm terrified of possible side effects. :(

Did you experience any sides with the Proscar?

Hey awesome story, did you by any chance you switch the proscar brand? As recently the original propecia has been out fo stock due to Covid and a few members have reported shedding by using generic brands. This seems to be common when people switch from the original to generic.

I mean Donald Trump is 74 years old and using propecia for hairloss.................
