At my age will anything work for hairloss.

Hello everyone.

I have just joined your great forum. Even though I have been reading it for a while.
Thanks for all the great help all of you are giving to the world. keep it up!

I am almost turning 40. And starting last year i have noticed a gradual thinning of hair. More noticable with wet hair as I can see the scalp more clearly.

the thinning seems to be all over evenly. With the center being more visible now.

Will any of the medicines like Propecia, Avodart, and applications of minoxidil and shampoos like Nizoral , do anything for me, or is it just the natural thinning of my hair.

If so what are my options?

In the morning I'll notice anywhere from 10 to 20 hairs on the counter after I have combed. So I am not sure if that is excessive shedding. But i can see the bald spot starting to appear and of course the hair line has receded too.

If you can see a bald spot on your crown and your hair line is starting to recede, it´s male pattern baldness. You can go to a dermatolist if you prefer but i would at least start taking finasteride if i were u. if you get side effects and they start to be untolerable, just go off of it.

If you want to maintain, get on finasteride like MPBWarrior suggested (make sure you will be healthy enough to take it).

If you want to regrow some hair, you can add 5% minoxidil.

If you use the minoxidil, I'd also ad Nizoral 1% shampoo, its OTC and works as well as the 2% when it comes to increasing the diameter of your hair. It will also help to keep your scalp healthy. Leave it in your hair for 5 minutes, then follow with a conditioner (as Nizoral tends to make your hair frizzy).

yes, you can regrow hair even at your age. it probably is easier for you since your hair loss is not as agressive as ours.

I would think that guys who dont need it till late 30's early 40's are probably great candidates for this stuff because its less agressive. But who the hell knows really.

I would be careful about putting anything about MySpace on ANY site right now as it is being phished with virus/worms.....=)

My other half took Avodart for the prostate and went from being totally bald on the top of his head, to a huge amount of hair growth....

MySpace is loaded with virus/worms/phishing with everthing that looks legit and is NOT right now....it is being silently moving thru as the links,
im, etc looks exacty like it should but is not...good luck!
