Greetings,

I have been hearing with more and more frequency that aspartame (the sweetner used in diet soft drinks and equal) can aggrivate hair loss. Anyone else hear this?

Also, will quitting smoking help much in reducing hair loss...or to put it another way, does smoking really make your hair fall out?

Signed,

I drink too many diet sodas a day and smoke too much

Belated bump!

I realise this was posted over a year ago but I'd love to hear people's opinions on this. Funnily enough, I recently quit smoking and as a 'subsitute' of sorts I chew a hell of a lot of sugar-free gum, which contains Aspartame. Over the past month or so, I've noticed significant hair loss.

I guess it's quite a hunch, but I wonder how much Aspartame can or does affect hair loss. Any thoughts guys?

Cheers

Don't worry about the aspartame. Worry about the cigs - not because of hair loss, but because of cancer.

no idea about aspartame, but as to the smoking this is what i've read from various places on the internet. smoking will increase dht by 14%, reduces insulin sensitivity, smoking one cigarette can reduce circulation to the skin by half. destroys elastin and collagen. all these things are very bad for hair. oh and it makes your dick soft, turns you blind and gives you cancer. can aggravate skin conditions also.

BUT you'll look cool in black and white movies, and if you learn to blow smoke rings girls will want you to touch them in the bathing suit area.

i think the choice is clear

I have male pattern baldness, and avoid diet sodas like the plague and always have. Why? Well, I'm relatively thin, and diet sodas taste like sh*t.

Good link. Aspartame is very bad for you. The put it in virtually all gum. Sugar free you want to stay away from. Aspartame is certainly alot worse than sugar.

There is alot of scary information about aspartime on the web and in one or two books i have read. I try to avoid it but it's in everything. Practically all fizzy drinks, especially diet drinks. For companies to stop using this product would have devastating results for their profits, hence the dangers are ignored and denied.

One thing that was missed of that list of complaints was MS, which since the use of aspartime, instances of MS has shot up.

It's a sick profit driven world we live in. Annoyingly for me though i still could not murder someone without feeling bad about it, but many of the collective people who run business and commerce have no such qualms.

Indeed.

Step by step, they are slowly changing what we eat. Every day getting us used to LESS fresh and real food, and more synthetic stuff.

By the year 2030, we'll be so conditioned that we will be drinking crude oil right from the tap.

His only post and no one responded until a year later.

Yeah kinda depressing huh? I wonder if he will ever know that his topic finally got noticed.
