Are the sides always thinner?

I have been looking at my hair, and i can't figure it out. My temples are thinning, in the pattern of two triangles going back into my head. However, even the bits which are not within that clear cut triangle on the sides, are incredibly thin. Its strange, as when i part my hair on top of my head, anywhere, there is no thinning. I feel the hairs may have become thinner themselves, but you can't see any scalp no matter where i make a part.

However, i make a part on the sides at the front, in the parts which are not in the receding pattern, and I see about 70% scalp and 30% hair! This is the same (except worse at the front) for the sides all the way back to directly above my ears.

This can't be normal right? My non male pattern baldness areas are way thinner than the top of my head!

this is completely normal. I noticed this when I was looking at many men's hair lines while deciding which one i wanted for my grafts. If you look at a NW7, their hair starts above their ears and goes back. if you look at a NW0, their sides come in to near their eyebrow, and are straight up and down from side view, and angled in towards the top from front view. If you look at a nw2, the sides are angled back from side view, and angled straight up and down from front view. i picked the nw1 look because i thought it looked best.

As men appoach Norwood 3, their sides in front of their side burns disappear, and their hair line does not as much, but just maybe V's a bit. (are the temples the sides or are they part of the top hair line?)

Anyway, my sides are very thin too. just look at my before and after pictures on my myspace . you have to click on pics. my sides were completely gone. dr keene built them back up. that is why i put minoxidil on my sides as well, to save some of the thin hairs. NW4's have sides that are even with their beard, and NW7's have sides that are above the ear, far behind the beard.

now you know more about the male pattern.

i'm sure that your sides just snuck up on you because you were not looking for thinning there. i doubt most people notice you are balding when they first see you, though they will notice eventually. people like me have very well trained eyes. as long as your hair frames your face right and the color contrast is right, you should be fine. but once it stops framing you right or the thin spots change the color contrast, people still might not notice your baldness, but they will think something is wrong with your face, and that it just does not look that good. eventually, if they care to look and figure it out, they will notice the baldness is causing it, and might notice your face is just fine. interesting how most people don't even know what they are looking at. similarly, sometimes women will get really upset about something that someone says, without reason. it could be they want an excuse to say they don't like the person, but it could mean that someone they really don't like once said that, and they thought listening for that statement is a good way to spot other guys like him. if people are trained to look for something, they will see it even if you wear a wig. if they are not trained, they might not notice it for months or even years. I'm sure your sides have been receding for a few years a least an you did not even notice when it is your hair!
