As in an earlier post, I'm about a Norwood 2 - 3 in my hairline now after 6 years of my Rogaine 5% foam/Nizoral/finasteride 1mg daily routine. This means that my temples are bare on the sides. Should I be applying the foam into the bare skin areas of scalp or more into the scalp where the hair is still growing? Or both? I can never remember as the instructions only deliniate how to apply it in the BACK of your head where I have no hair loss.

You're right the instructions are very vague. Don't use on unaffected areas (i.e. back). If you use it on bare skin areas you might only get baby hairs as most of the follicles on that area have already died off.

Also, I recommend leaving the foam can under running cold tap water for a minute or so to cool it down before applying as it really gets the solution more foamy. I remember using it years ago in hot climate and it came out runny, but after cooling it the solution came out like thick whipped cream.

You know I should re-read the instructions again if I can find them. I've always applied it even to the back of my hair even though its not balding yet. (just for prevention.)

When referring to the back he means the part that stays even when a nw7 I believe.
