applying rogain only to hairline?

does this work? wont the hair behind the hairline start thinning if rogain does its job and keeps the hairline?

Ive been applying it to my hairline 2 months now,noticed some slight regrowth and vellus hairs becoming small little hairs,in my experience so far the hair behind hasnt thinned at all,might be because im on finasteride nearly 6 months and im quite young
