hi all, first off, sorry if this is a question that gets asked a hundred times a day but i'm at work and in a bit of a rush -
my first package of rogaine foam arrived in the post the other day and i've put off putting it on so far, fear of shedding and doing it wrong etc. does anyone have any words of advice on how much to apply, how to apply it, when, etc. with regards to having longish hair? say, 5, 6 inches long on top. also - shedding. is it as scary as i sometimes hear? i dunno - you know what i'm getting at here, the usual first timer questions.
i've been on finasteride and nizoral for nearly two years now.

Hey man! I tried to reply to you but the site said your inbox is full so the message won't send. I apply it morning and night to the thinning areas but I get the hair damp first. It's hard to know how much to really apply so I usually over do it. If you want to save money go with some generic minoxidil liquid at night and stick it in the freezer a little bit. The reason I stick it in the freezer is so when the cold minoxidil hits my head I know where it's actually absorbing if you get my drift. Hang in there man!

thanks for the reply - i emptied my inbox so you should be able to PM me again now =) to be honest with you, i'm still not gunna start it for a week or so i don't think.... i keep hearing so many stories about people losing 500 hairs a day for weeks and weeks and that's just - yeah, even if they grew it all right back, it still scares the crap out of me the idea of having to go to work looking like that for 2 or 3 months. man, i don't know what to do.

edit: scratch that. started today.

I don't think the minoxidil shedding is nearly as bad as these forums make it out to be. The people who post here about shedding are the ones who get it the worst. Most people don't have too much of a problem with it. When I used it, I shed some (like an extra 10 hairs in the shower or something), but it was nothing to make a cosmetic difference in my hair.

The minoxidil shedding is nothing, but the finasteride shedding is hard

Yeah I never got 500 hairs a day. Maybe it's the worrying causing that for people, I dunno. Good luck man!

I find the easiest way to apply foam is to spray small dots onto the top of the head and rub it in that way. apply it directly, and not into the cap or anything first.

I got a minoxidil shed (or so I believe because it was about 2 - 3 months in). It was minor. I am hoping I don't get a finasteride shed later, though!
