Application of Minoxidil

Hey guys,

I have a quick question about the application of topical minoxidil. I'm using Rogaine Foam and just started this past month to use it all over my NW5 area rather than just the bald spot on the vertex which I had been doing for the two months prior. After reading a lot about the necessity of 'massaging in' products like Spectral DNC to get maximum effectiveness, I started giving a real good scalp massage when applying Rogaine Foam. Whereas before I would rub it in for a moment just to get the foam to melt, leaving a clear liquid to soak in all over the scalp, I've found that after a 30 second - 1 minute massage the Rogaine starts to lather up into a soapy, foamy lather that coats the scalp and hairs, which I've been leaving to dry all over. I think the scalp stimulation is good for improving blood flow, but I'm not sure if I'm over-lathering the Rogaine. I could always massage the scalp before application to stimulate circulation and then just apply the Rogaine Foam as per before, leaving just the clear liquid on a freshly massaged scalp, but I'm not sure which is the preferred method.

Anybody have any experience or anecdotes indicating that one way is better than the other? In other words, should I rub the scalp so much that the Rogaine lathers up like soap, or should I rub the scalp first and just melt the Rogaine Foam into a clear liquid and leave it at that. Any ideas?

Much Appreciated,
The LHB

I melt the foam whiles it is in the cup and then use a dropper and hit the scalp at various points of the balding areas....

This way i'm assured that most of the rogaine gets into the scalp..

Why don't you just buy liquid minoxidil then dboy? HairLossTalk.com user sequenceme sent me his leftover minoxidil, 3 cans of the foam and a thing of liquid minoxidil. The liquid is actually really nice to use and easy to measure out with the dropper, I'm not so sure I prefer the foam anymore which is supposed to be easier to use. I will definitely keep the dropper though so I can use foam as a liquid according to your method if I so desire later. Thanks.

Anybody else have experience with this?

The foam doesn't have propyl glyco which causes me to itch
Alot. The liquid does. They do sell aftermarket minoxidil liquid with no ppg but not sure how effective they are

Are you saying Rogaine has minoxidil liquid free of ppg? Do they have azelaic acid as well? if yes, i will give it a try if the price is lower than what I am paying now.
