Application and Drying of Minoxidil - ADVISE URGENTLY NEEDED

My hair is about 1/2 on the top of my head and when i apply minoxidil (Kirkland 5%), it makes my hair look greasy and even thinner. Does anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone have any tips on the best way to apply 5% Minoxidil (Dropper or sprayer etc)?

It also takes ages to dry, which is very inconvienient. Any tips on how to help it dry faster.

I had the same experience and stopped using minoxidil for that reason, relying on finasteride and Nizoral instead.

Apply minoxidil with a dropper. You might want to use 5% Xandrox in the morning, since it dries much faster and leaves no residue, and 5% Kirkland in the evening. Kirkland is cheaper, which is why you might not want to use the Xandrox both times.

Many of us use Dr. Lee's minoxidil from http://www.minoxidil.com

It's more expensive than Kirkland's, but it dries within 20 minutes. Product #500 on the website I've listed above.

Personally, I comb my hair forward and apply the minoxidil with a dropper.

The product 500 you recommend is listed as "standard minoxidil", doesn't this take the same time as Rogaine and Kirkland to dry?

Product 540 "Minoxidil 5% without Propylene Glycol"is also listed. Whats the difference?

Dr. Lee's "standard minoxidil" dries in 20 minutes. Dr. Lee's formulation simply contains less propene glycol, which gives the greasy feeling.

Product 540 uses a glycerin base as the delivery agent. This is still pretty greasy, and is more for guys who are allergic to propene glycol.

Order a bottle of 500 and try it. You'll never go back to Rogain.

First thing I do of a morning is shower, dry hair, and shave. Then I add the minoxidil using a cotton bud directly on the scalp. It takes roughly 10 minutes. I then let that dry while I dress and have breakfast. The I come back to the bathroom and it's usually dry. I use a spray-in conditioner and comb through, and can style with a wax. I don't touch the scalp with my comb. The hair looks shiney and normal. By the time I get to work the scalp is well and truely dry.

What Minoxidil do you use?
I use Kirkland 5%, its greasy and takes hours to dry?

I receive my minoxidil etc from a hair clinic Ashley and Martin in Australia. The clinic's formula combines 7% minoxidil with 0.01% Retinoic acid to soak quickly into the scalp. There's no brand indicators other than a Sydney pharmacy label.

Getting there, I think you might have a very good method. When you "add the minoxidil using a cotton bud directly on the scalp," do you rub the minoxidil into the skin so more of it gets absorbed? That might help it dry faster and work better.

Also, by "cotton bud," do you mean the swab type with a stick and cotton on both ends?

Yep, that's the sort.

No I don't rub it in. My minoxidil formula has 0.01% retinoic acid that aids in absorbing the minoxidil. If I rub it in my skin get's irritated. It just dries naturally after an hour. It doesn't stop me styling my hair 30mins later, I just don't touch the scalp with my brush. So it doesn't need to dry any faster for me.
