Hi Guys

I'm one of many guys no doubt who is having to reconsider how best to approach his long term 'hair loss strategy' and think that some pieces I've seen look good; I'm thinking Tony Bennett for one. I read a few days back that pieces can end up costing as much as a hair transplant which seems pretty high.

Doe anyone wear a piece who can either confirm or disconfirm this ?

They strike me as just as much effort as regular hair which needs washing and drying in the morning, in fact possibly less so. The ridicule that wearers of pieces could get seems on the face of it a bit questionable. I think if as a guy you've tried rocking a shaved head and you don't feel confident, happy with your appearance then try rocking a piece. Some people will laugh, but why is it such an object for much mockery. It almost seem an unwritten rule' thou shalt mock the pseudo hair wearer'. People don't hyperventilate in anticipation to mock women for wearing 'false' nails or the person with an artificial limb but hair... forget about it, tear into 'em.

It could be a social genderism, or sexism, or some peoples vanity/appearance issues. Whatever it seems this attitude is questionable. It doesn't strike me as effeminate for having an interest in our appearance, but perhaps a piece may be venturing into too much interest territory ?

Be keen to read other takes on this and can anyone confirm or not on the piece costs as well please ?

Yeah, I don't get why women get away with hair extensions, makeup, wonderbras etcetera... But men? Throw on a wig and you're a pathetic loser.. Double standards much?

I've considered a frontal piece but I don't know if I can be arsed with the maintenance... I'd also be constantly worrying about being busted. More power to people who can though, hair systems have come a long way and can look very impressive

It annoys me so much that hair pieces are not accepted as a normal thing for balding men, like you say if girls want fake nails because there nails wont grow out or if they want bigger thicker longer hair they can wack some hair exstenions in no problem no one would even think anything of it but if a guy wants to wear a hair piece because we have this ****ty male pattern baldness and he wants to do something about it then he has to feel insecure and paranoid about what people would think or worried anyone will find out,i have thinning around my crown and it gets me down everyday,id use toppik but im worried id get caught out its so fustrating,a guy at work was caught out right in front of me and i felt so sorry for him, another guy was stood over him and infront of everyone just says what have you got in your hair have you coloured it in or something, the lad didnt no what to say it made me so angry, thing is if we dont try do something then you get the whole your goin bald mate did you no but if you do something and people find out then you get mocked for that its a loosing battle both ends :-(

**** that Chris. Easier said granted but if was happy with it and others weren't I'm damned if I'm going to choose their happiness over mine. The biggest thing, for me, is if its a major pain in the *** to maintain etc. If someone mocks put it to them where is the hilarity ? I don't roll on the floor if a femme where's false nails or hair, so where is the comedy if a guy does it ?

I reckon you really have to believe it. To be honest I'm a little intrigued as to why it is meant to be so funny so I think I would half be expecting someone to explain why its funny, if you catch me. I've seen pieces that look a like a golfers grass divot sat on their head which do look funny but others look great. I loved Tony Bennett for years and never knew he wore one and to be honest I reckon he might look peculiar without one, but what matters most is his opinion. Mind you I have seen him paint self portraits all with hair which may seem questionable.

If someone has an artificial' limb or perhaps better named replacement limb, they get sympathy, hair its mockery. OK limbs function hair doesn't some might say but this debateable, it keeps in heat, protects the head etc etc.

Yeah i no exsactly what you mean it just anoys me that if a guy does wear a hair piece why would he even have to worry about what people think he shouldnt,it should be a standard thing these day you would think it would be as everything else now adays seems to be exseptable but a guy with a hair piece is diffrent, hairloss has made me paranoid about what i look like even to the pointnof goin swimming as when my hair gets wet it looks 100 times worse it suck so bad,a hair piece i heard are quite exspensive to maintain but i think there quite advanced now ans you barley no there on well thats what iv read.

What's the worse that can happen ? It flies off in the wind and you look a twat for a bit, possibly humiliate yourself.

I would want something you could stick on your head and swim in, but I doubt could have anything that wouldn't rip a few hairs out when you took it off...

Probably true, they would take a few hairs out if its glued or stuck on as I think most are. Other people use them and i've seen good and bad soi wouldn't be against giving one a go and see how it goes. In long run I suspect I would ditch it but then Tony Bennett hasn't so it may be I wouldn't. Guess we all have to call it for ourselves
