The results

Up to 90% of users notice a visible increase in hair volume, thickness and shine.

Up to 75% of users report their rate of hair loss reduced or stopped altogether.

AFTER 6 MONTHS

80% of users regrow their hair, and many report significant reductions in scalp irritation, seborrhea and dandruff.**

** Robinson Greenwood, M (PhD) 2000, Hair Savers for Women: A Complete Guide to Preventing and Treating Hair Loss, Thre Rivers Press, NY, pp. 106-107.

The product contains some chemical called Rhodanide in eggs.

They went on a PR Blitz apparently and gave their products to a bunch of bloggers. But most came back very positive. I just found one negative comment in the reply to one of the reviews saying it actually increased itching for some lady who used it.

What I found interesting.

Says it reduces hair fall. They all said it increased hair growth rate and also added strength.

Has been in Australia for a while though - how come nobody heard of it before?

The links - all different reviewers, they seem pretty impressed with the product (read the comments as well):

Shows a vid of the product, you can use it as much as you want apparently without sides!

Anyone tried it?

I got sides from both minoxidil and finasteride, so pretty much out of options...:(

Jacob, thanks!! You are a great help. Did you find anything at the time about it increasing thickness and regrowth as versus just fast growth?
I am a successful responder to minoxidil. That success unfortunately comes with heart racing and I really don't want to permanently damage my system over hair. :( (Though there are many many times I am tempted to!)

Based on your experience should I either:

- Use keratene shampoo (which has beta sisterols in it and may stop hair loss over the long term)
That stuff comes with claims it too reduces hair loss and increases health etc. But I am wondering whether it is worth it and what if it accelerates loss.

Please look through the website above and let me know whether it makes sense to you or appears dodgy. I couldn't find any reviews about them either, though their customer service is fairly prompt.

- Or try this R4H/Activance stuff..it seems to be a minoxidil style growth accelerator and may actually help over the short term at least.

Ultimately, I guess its praying for Replicel and HSC. :(

But your insight would be appreciated.

I cant use both since the Keratene guys are categorical their stuff wont work with any topical minoxidil etc.

This is supposedly "proof" of rhodanide's anti DHT effect. Can anyone make sense?

Reference as mentioned here: http://www.menopausecentre.com.au/menop ... tment.html

And found here:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7117688

Sodium thiocyanate: a probe for the conformations of the androgen-receptor complex.
Kaufman M, Pinsky L, Wong SC, Simard L, Dorato A.
Abstract

In the presence of sodium thiocyanate (NaCNS), partially purified 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone-receptor (DHT-R) complexes extracted from normal genital skin fibroblasts (GSF) dissociate with complex (biphasic) kinetics. The rate constant of the 'fast' component and the magnitude of the 'slow' component vary with temperature (29-37 degrees C) and NaCNS concentration (0.1-0.4 M). Equimolar sodium bromide is much less effective; potassium chloride up to 1 M has no effect. DHT-R complexes from the GSF of a subject with partial androgen insensitivity (PAI) yield biphasic dissociation profiles that differ from normal and are influenced by NaCNS. Together with the temperature-dependent, first-order (monophasic) dissociative behavior of normal DHT-R complexes in the absence of NaCNS (Kaufman et al., 1982), the foregoing data have been used to construct a kinetic model involving the dissociation of DHT from 3 conformationally related forms of the androgen-receptor complex: (1) dysactivated; (2) preactivated; (3) activated.

Can anyone translate the above to english? Does it mean that it is anti DHT drug? If so, its very possible we have a DHT blocker & over time, it can act against Androgenetic Alopecia (male pattern baldness)!!

Also does anybody know whether Rhodanide have any side effects?

I don't know about the others..but the one posted above does ship to the USA..I think they're even based in the USA: http://www.rhodanide.com/

You could also make your own topical I suppose..Ebay is one source:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l2736&_nkw=Thiocyanate

On choosing between the two products...your guess is as good as mine. I can't seem to find ingreds lists for the Keratene products though. And I'm sure they're saying not to use other products...just so you use more of theirs :woot: I'd take 'em up on any money-back offer(if it's decent)if they're so confident only using their products will do the trick.

Here are a bunch of quotes either from the (at the time) Rocket Fuel website and what was sent from the company via email:

Stimulates hair cells for dramatically healthier more voluminous hair Repairs chemically & medically damaged hair
Accelerates hair growth
Repairs dry, porous, broken, frizzy, tangled hair.
Fattens and Strengthens thin, weak, fine hair
Protects hair from toxic chemicals, pollutants and free radicals.
Revitalises dull, lifeless, limp hair.
Increases your hairs moisture content by up to 90%.
Shines your hair so that its incredibly reflective
Increases hair volume, bounce and manageability.

How long before I should expect to see results?

Immediate effects: noticeable as early as 6 to 8 applications

*
Up to 50% increase in hair diameter
*
Increase in hair shine/gloss
*
Hair structure becomes stable with more body and elasticity
*
Improved manageability: easier to comb and manage
*
Improved general appearance of hair: thicker, fuller, vibrant, healthier, shinier hair.

Additional Effects: noticeable as early as 6 weeks

*
Rate of hair loss has quite frequently been observed to slow down / reduce within 6 weeks to 2 months after 12-15 applications.

Positive effects on hair growth can be observed between 5 to 9 months, depending on the actual cause in each individual case.

Hi

Thank you for your enquiry and interest in Rocket Fuel for hair. It certainly will help your existing hair and makes each hair strand fuller and healthier. You certainly have nothing to lose as Rocket Fuel for hair is a natural product!

We do not claim rocket fuel will regrow hair for androgenetic alopecia.

We often receive amazing reports from our customers and certainly on the internet if you research rhodanide you will see studies and large amounts of information regarding hair and how rhodanide works.

I trust the above information will be of assistance.

Ok so I continued digging stuff up. I ordered it as well. Will let you all know how it works. Its pricey @75 AUD. Which means in Indian Rs, 4000. But given the extortionate costs of FUE transplants - thats just 20 grafts, so worth it.

Here is what Activance was being sold as in Germany before: Activogland.

The special Pflegekur with hereditary hair loss.Only the hair is thin, brittle then - and in the end they fallfrom. In hereditary hair loss cripples the male sex hormoneTestosterone, the activity of the hair cells. Why does your hair, theSpecial care Activogland ®Rhodanid.Rhodanid with a chemicalCompound of sulfur, carbon and nitrogen, plays in theHair cells is a major energy carrier promotes Schlüsselrolle.AlsThiocyanate, the division of hair cells and controls their metabolism. But with each wash thiocyanate is washed from the scalp.Consequence: The hair roots are weakened - and make theirAn activity. For people who suffer from hereditary hair loss

So it does make the claim to work against Androgenetic Alopecia and testosterone.

Activogland ® Elixir: The high doses of thiocyanate treatment. This elixir brings high-dose thiocyanate directly to the hair cells. Spread a generous tablespoon sized amount to approximately the Scalp and massage the elixir in a circular motion into the opened horny layer of the scalp. Sun is directly thiocyanate the hair cells and increases their activity. In addition, relieves Activogland the classic side effects of hair loss such as itching and dandruff. The elixir is not rinsed out. dosage: Activogland ® is suitable for daily hair washing. In order to achieve the desired results, you should apply at least 2 times a week. An initial therapeutic effect of Activogland ® Treatment can be expected after 3-6 months. Activogland ® is very well tolerated and can therefore also a longer period may be used. While this Homeopath site makes the point:
http://www.farmaciamasnatural.com.ar/ho ... 6_2006.pdf

That literature is insufficient etc. Basically the mechanism of action is not clearly given in the literature.

This http://www.md-institute.com/cms/ressort ... yanate.pdf

Shows that Rhodanide is indeed used for hair products.

But: www.rhodanide.com has more on the tests.

I cant copy the page but it shows the tests on rhodanide. Click in it for more.

Another review on Activogland shampoo:
http://www.dooyoo.de/medizinische-koerp ... l/1123685/

Advantages: well-tolerated
Cons: expensive
Hair Loss stopping by Activogland own shampoo?

When I (male) 27 years old, I noticed for the first time that my hair was slightly lighter at the prominent places, and I was approached by others to it.

People, people - that was maybe stress, I can tell you at that time I began my "from one moment to the other" to occupy myself suddenly the subject of hair loss, I diesbezügich then read "smart" and I did everything possible tried to stop this development. I guess that is hereditary hair loss for me, my grandpa was a proud "full plate" and Papa's does not look much better.

The late nineties, I came across at the Shampoo Activogland, of course, also influenced by advertising, the main reason was that it had been recommended by a doctor. I can just say here and now no longer, as has my hair loss developed between the early nineties and late nineties - that I just do not - I'm really bald spots but also against the "Activoglandzeit" never had.

------------------------------------
to the manufacturer's
------------------------------------
The Contractor shall provide in its advertising first of all the basic knowledge on the subject of "hereditary hair loss" and recommends that special care product containing the active ingredient thiocyanate (the "is an irreplaceable, natural cellular component that participates in important physiological reaction processes"), exactly is this substance is in Activogland, in addition to the shampoo, there is an elixir. Supposedly is for people who suffer from hereditary hair loss, "loss of thiocyanate an additional burden." With Activogland hair should look healthier and stronger.

For more information, I recommend the site of the manufacturer.

------------------------------------
own experience with Activogland to 2006
------------------------------------
I wash my hair almost every day and have it until a year ago only used Activogland shampoo on the Activogland elixir that will be massaged into the hair after washing, I did not, I've never used this. By 2006, I used no other means to stop the hair loss.

I want to make any "bald candidates," any hope, but I can say with a clear conscience that my hair loss between the years 1999 - 2006 (ie the period in which I've used this shampoo) did not continue. Something like it looks pretty accurate when you look at old photos of themselves, so in my photos from 1999 can be seen not to say that my hair is fuller than today.

In 2006 I sold the shampoo, because it was too expensive first (available only in pharmacies, usually costs more than 10,00 EURO) and because I, as the hair loss had progressed not so obviously, no I still think about homemade. I have until early 2007 - after I had used no more Activogland about 5 months - again found that the hair begins again to be thinner.

Since 2007, I use "harder" against hair loss, some of which have side effects (itching, rash, etc.), whether this effect I can not say.

But we were again at Activogland, the shampoo smells good, I enjoyed it very well tolerated (my hair looked after, from always really nice and strong, any negative side effects I've never noticed.

Had to mention in conclusion that I have dark hair and my hair pretty "fine" are.
Summary: ... may be worth a try?

I am hoping that this thing works!!

Ok, so here is my update so far. I got the product a couple of weeks after I posted last. So I have used it for a couple of weeks now. I am over-using it, basically I do 20 odd shots on my scalp 2x a day, as versus 15-20 once. I also stopped Minoxidil, so I am going through a bad shed and my hair has huge gaps in it
So far - this stuff works in terms of cosmetic appearance. It makes the hair shinier and appear thicker and also smoothens it. This means that my hair is still appearing to exist despite it being in a bad state.
It is NOT as powerful as minoxidil for sure. Well at least two weeks in, I can say that its not thickened up my hair like minoxidil did even a month into the treatment. My hair is still thinning, it just appears better cosmetically.
It does appear to have an effect on scalp health & hair health. My male pattern baldness itch was back with a vengeance once I stopped minoxidil. Now its somewhat receded. But who knows...keeping my fingers crossed and praying..!

Basically, its too early to tell, BUT i do think this product is not complete snake oil. Its probably best for people with mild hair loss. Guys at NW2 and who dont have severe male pattern baldness can try it out for a few months and won't suffer too badly.

In my case, time will tell. I will update the forum regularly.

Its only been 2 weeks since I am using it, so one has to be circumspect.

I have also ordered Bhringaraj oil - Eclipta Alba from Trichup (company, google it up), but I may just use just the one treatment versus both, if the latters too greasy etc. Thing with combining topical treatments is that they seem to be antagonistic on account of the vehicles. One blocks the skin pores, then how can the other work etc.

Which product did you end up getting?

This one.
http://store.activance.com.au/item....l - Revives Thinning, Damaged & Lifeless Hair

The other said with MSM, and I wasnt sure whether I'd even be able to tolerate this one, let alone with MSM etc.

It definitely gives the minoxidil "look" but its yet to be shown whether it can actually stop shedding and do regrowth like minoxidil...my male pattern baldness itch keeps making a reappearance, it is not as strong as it was when I stopped minoxidil and did not have this product...but its not disappeared entirely either. I continue to lose hairs - thats probably due to stopping minoxidil, but its much lesser than what I was expecting. Though most of my growth 3-4 months into minoxidil was vellus (not terminal hairs) and I did shed a lot of fully grown terminal hairs...so I am hoping that this thing works and does do something about regrowth 2-3 months into the treatment...though the website asks for a conservative 6 months..

My basic criteria for success: If it stops my shedding, stops male pattern baldness itch, keeps hair thick and shiny (which means do more with less)
Additional icing on the cake: Regrowth as and when that occurs.

Is this drying like minoxidil with alcohol or is this moisturizing? I can't use minoxidil and can only use the big 1. Heck I've gone through hell and back trying to use the 2nd of the big 3, nizoral 2% and it dries and tangles my hair to pieces making it such a chore and job to do my hair i'm mentally and physically tired afterwards.

Does anyone know if this to is drying?
