Hi all,

Is there anyone here that ever gave finasteride a second try after failing the first time due to side effects?

I started finasteride 2,5 year ago and it gave me terrible side effect. I only recoverd recently when I cleaned up my lifestyle. Around the time I started finasteride I was depressed, had bad gut health, consumed tons of dairy, dranks tons of alcohol etc.

For the last year I have really been focussing on my (mental/sexual) health.
- Improved my sleep
- Reduced my animal product intake
- Increased vegetable intake
- Started experimenting with certain herbs
- Reduced stress
- Recovering from p**rn addiction

I feel pretty good these days. A visit to my barber however kind of put me in a bad place. I have lost quite some density over the last 2 years and if I can not stop this I expect that I will not be able to hold on to a long hairstyle (I have long curly hair) till my 30's (I am 27 now).

Even though I had sworn at a certain point to never touch finasteride again I was wondering if it would be worth to maybe try again at an extremely low microdosing level (start with 0.04 twice a week for example).

Any thoughts?

I tried it twice; 12 years ago for 2 years and again 18 months ago, same result terrible sides! Now maintaining on RU with no sides so far!

If your mental health is good now I wouldn't take the risk.

Where the other variables all the same at all your attempts?
- lifestyle?
- health
-supplementation?
etc

No, I am a steady away guy, wife, kids, good job etc. I eat healthy don't drink too much and stay fit for a guy my age. From what I understand DHT has an important function within the body (although it is the main culprit in hair loss) messing with your hormone levels to fix one problem can cause other problems like brain fog, depression, lethargy, sexual issues etc.

My best guess would be that I have low DHT or possibly low testosterone levels and by lowering these levels further it increases to the sides. I think my follicles are just very sensitive to DHT because I did see good results while on finasteride but its not for me.

Thank you for your reply.

Well my plan is to start microdosing finasteride at 0,04 mg 3 times a week and then slowly turn it up (or not).
In addition I will continue supplementen with pine pollen powder. Pine pollen actually contains testosterone, but unlike steroids it does not interfere with your own androgen production.

I will also supplement DHEA. Why? Because I think that a main reason why people have side effects from finasteride (also the sometimes persisting ones) is not just hormonal (low t, low dht, high estro) but also plays on a neurosteroid level. What happens on a neurosteroid level has a strong impact on your hormones as well so if you manage to get your t levels up but you still have issues on a neurosteroid level, you are only treating the symptoms.

RU source? i'm thinking about adding it to minoxidil, since it isn't expensive..

I assume you mean dropping it in minoxidil and not RU itself when you refer to it not being expensive? The cost of RU is what puts me off. Does it still cost like around 70$ a month?

You can get it from Kane $85 for 5 grams which last 100 days so basically 3 months. Cheap and effective. There are plenty of guides on how to mix into minoxidil on Youtube. No sides at all.

Its best kept in the freezer and mixed in small batches when needed. I have bought from Anegenic premixed but will go to the powder next time as I have noticed it seems more effective with the first week of opening a new bottle and less effective by the end of the month.

I had terrible sides from finasteride but nothing from RU so far. Although do wear surgical gloves when mixing and applying just to be cautious and avoid any derma reaction.

IMHO, a small dose is good, but it should be consumed daily to prevent hormonal fluctuations. Maybe try 0.10 or 0.20 mg/day, which can only be achieved by dissolving it in liquid.

Separately, there is no evidence that healthy meats are bad for you.

Soo, what sides did u have? This is the third time im trying finasteride, this time I take Cabaser with it, only been taking finasteride/cab for 2 weeks, so hard to tell if its working, but no sides so far. I have quitted all milk/dairy, products(almost), doing alot of heavy weight training, and overall just living a healthy life. Oh, also quitted alcohol. The first 2 times I lived a life with alot of alcohol/dairy etc... So if I dont get sides now, I cant really tell if its cabaser or lifestyles changes. But I think it would be cabaser that helps. If ur finasteride sides is placebo because of paranoia, lifestyle changes might help

I think doing nofap is already a good change, considering that most side effects that people report can also be caused by jacking off too much.
