Anyone successfully increased density at sides of head?

I'm a norwood 2 with only temporal recession but it seems like my sides are losing density/don't stick out much from side burns. Will finasteride and/or minoxidil help me keep or gain hair there or does it only affect the top?

My experience over the last four months since I've started finasteride is a general thickening of the hair all over...not just the top, but also in the "wreath". I noticed this when I buzzed the sides and back of my head down to a 2 guard...previously this would have revealed a lot more scalp than it does currently....it just feels thicker as well...no doubt in my mind that finasteride improved the sides and back of my head.

man, have u got some pics of ur hair? can u tell ur thinning when its buzzed? im interested to see as u post on here quite alot. or have u got a story on here?

Oh yes you can definitely tell I'm thinning. I have a bald spot that would make most of you guys cry if you woke up with it one day. Still thin on top, but improving. Hairline is pretty decent now...from the front I look like I have a totally appropriate hair line for a 37 year old. The back view paints quite a different portrait however. No, I don't have any pix and my story probably needs updating...I forget about it.

i did not notice a difference, but many people started telling me my hair looked darker, and they did not know i was on finasteride or minoxidil. in fact, i'm not sure if i had started minoxidil yet. i had not noticed the darkening, but everyone said it looked a lot better. when my first hair transplant surgeon looked at my hair before i was on finasteride, he just quickly and without a care told me that all the hair in front of my head was going to go, siting the light color as his evidence. i had not noticed the color change before then. it was too faint for me to really tell. but remembering back, I now recognise that it is a lot darker. all of my hair looks better.
