There are a few people on here over 10 years. Scroll through the success forums and you'll find some. I am getting up towards 6 years now.

If you don't mind I would love to hear about those 6 years on Propecia such as doses, sides, generic or geniune, hairline, crown and if any regrowth or if it has just maintained the hair when you started?

Do you think that Propecia is just as effective for you as say, 3 years ago do you have a feeling that hairloss is catching up if so have you adjusted dosage for this reason or have you played around with the doses and what did you find?

Cheers.

Yea, for the one who has been using propecia and minoxidil for 6 years, do you feel that it is starting to lose effectiveness or not?

Sorry for the delayed reply.

For nearly 6 years, since age 24, I've used finasteride to treat the male pattern baldness on my crown - using Proscar, splitting into quarters (1.25mg/day).

I think I may have had a patch of low libido for a few months (could have been in my head) at the start but then everthing since then has been normal. Other than that, no sides whatsoever - I, personally, think half the "sides" people badger on about are in their heads. All this "brain fog" etc.

As far as results go, I've never had any regrowth (despite using minoxidil, nizoral etc as well). My regimen has, however, helped me to maintain my hair. It is not that much worse than it was when I began my regimen and I still have full coverage (albeit thin on the crown). You can see my 1.5 to 3 year results in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=23275&hilit=+the+3+year+mark+

I have found that after about the 4-5 year mark I am losing a little more hair and things may have gotten slightly worse. But things still aren't much worse than when I started. I should do a 6 year update later this year. Thankfully, my hairline hasn't budged yet and when styled no one can tell I am thinning (this was taken earlier this year):

Nice maintenance there bro and thanks for the details. Storys like this make me happy and worry less!

You say you are noticing more loss the usual you reckon you'd try upping the dose to counter that or?

but yeah from what it looks like you've maintained great and if you've still got that hair today I think propecia is working great for you?

P.S Was it generic or geniune propecia that you were using

Yeah - I am noticing that I am losing more hair these days when styling, shampooing, towel drying etc. From what I understand, I don't think upping the dosage of finasteride (I have been using Merck Proscar) will make much difference which is why I have just added Revivogen as of three weeks ago.

Although I am now 30 - turning 31 this year - I am still not cool with losing my hair! I think the meds have worked pretty well for me in helping me maintain, but I'm not giving up just yet. Gotta keep fighting!

My current regimen is:

Proscar (1.25mg daily)
Rogaine Foam (mornings)
Revivogen (evenings)
Nizoral shampoo (twice weekly)
Lamas Chinese Herb Shampoo and Conditioner (non-Nizoral days)
LLLT (whenever I have time)

I think I may add a copper peptide spray in at some point too.

Closing in on 10 years.
About 8 and half years Propecia
1 year Proscar
A few months Dutasteride
__________________________
Five to six years in and things were looking great
Then everything started to slip.
I have definitely moved back a full Norwood in the last couple of years.
(I should have just stayed with Propecia the whole time and never experimented with dutasteride or Proscar)
Also starting the top difusion over the last year.

Tried minoxidil a few times but just couldn't stand the thought of having to use the crap twice a day for the rest of my life.
Plus it acts like lighter fluid on my temples.

been on propecia and minoxidil both for just over 10 years w/no sides...combined they have done their job by maintaining my hair with a tiny bit of regrowth, but this past january I switched over to the minoxidil foam 2/day plus started nizoral again 2/week after years off of it and I have had more regrowth this year than I ever had before...i think it's mostly due to the foam...many are having good results with it. good year for me and hope it gets better - 33 years old.

Don't discount the nizoral my friend, it has stimulant properties and if you saw the b+a photos of the study carried out you'd be surprised.

you're right and I'm gonna increase the use of nizoral but the reason I was leaning more towards the foam was because I noticed a great improvement into the first month with just the change to foam from the liquid...I've been on 1% nizoral for 8 years but recently switched to the 2% nizoral 4 months after starting the minoxidil foam. I guess from the great reaction I got from the foam it restored new hope and made me upgrade to the 2% nizoral. I'm very hopeful the 2% nizoral would further improve my overall results.

No - I'm not taking the p*ss - but I'll choose to take your scepticism as a compliment! I am somewhat lucky that I haven't yet started thinning (much) at the hairline. My crown, however, has been thinning at least since I was 22 (when I first spotted it) - I am now 30. It is a little worse than when I started finasteride / minoxidil which was nearly 6 years ago now. I will post a 6 year update thread later this year.

I actually just added Revivogen into my regimen about a month ago and took a pic at baseline. Will post that when I'm next home.

Oh - and in answer to Fanjeera - yes I am fit. But I do try and get to the gym a couple of times per week and play sport whenever I can. I don't believe taking finasteride will make a noticeable difference to your body. I know everyone is different, but make time to work out three times a week and I'm sure you won't be complaining about finasteride changing your body anymore.

I had a major brainfart, I meant to say that I just started the 2% nizoral after years off of that dosage BUT have been using the 1% for at least 8 years up to the point where I switched over to the 2% this year.
