Anyone Have Any Success With Their Acne

I know a search through the forums yields advice about acne, i know dutas. clears up acne for a lot of people, but mine was their on finasteride., and it's here on dutas. i've been on minocycline for two weeks, and while it's gotten rid of little ones and made my skin smoother overall, there are still plenty of big zits that pop up. i'm on retin-a, too, and it seems like as soon as two are about to calm down and disappear, another bunch pop up.

I'm afraid that no matter what treatment I use, that the acne will always be a side effect. I also know accutane is the last step from the derm's p.o.v., and from mine because it can cause thinning, but would that work if it came down to it, or are zits now a part of my life forever. is there a mid-range med that might do better?

thanks.

Before going down the accutane road, you should go to a dermatologist and get a prescription for Benzamycin. It's a topical acne medication and it works quite well.

I had success with Clindamycin - a topical antibiotic.

However I have also used minocin, give the minocin more time you need to give it at least a month before you start to really see results with it.

Hey, in response to your post:

Beginning Avodart treatment has had a slight effect on my acne:

overall me skin is a little more dry and smooth. I have a little acne on my back, and in combination with Neautrogene Clean and Clear Scrub, which I've been using for several months now, I think the Dutasteride is helping to a small extent. I've also read that DHT causes some acne... so maybe it's a hormonal thing.

Anyway, that's just my two cents.

Day 5-13 on dutasteride: acne came back gradually!

Please buoy up me - did your acne got better after a while on dutasteride?

My advice is stay away from accutane unless you will end up with scarring pots.

I went on it when I was 19 and then again at 22. The second time around is when my hair went to sh*t. It has thinned and receeded considerably.

I am not sure if this is any help but while on accutane which didn't seem to be working for me on the second time round I started taking a supplement that contained Omega 3, Evening Primrose Oil and Flaxeed Oil. My acne cleared up within a week. I occasionaly get a zit after shaving but that's it. 3 years since I ended the treatment.

I wish I had never been prescribed accutane the second time and am disapointed in the dermatologist for not letting me know of the hair thinning. I am sure that a lot specialists receive perks from the drugs companies for how many people they can get on certain products.

I'll remind everyone that there was a recent study (within the last year or so) which found that a specific 5a-reductase type 1 inhibitor (Merck's experimental drug MK386) had no beneficial effect for acne, whether it was used alone or in combination with an antibiotic. Don't get your hopes up that dutasteride will work against acne.

Is your skin oily?
No. But the whole body-skin has changed somehow, indeed. Feels more smoothier and even spongy...my butt seems to have got a bit fatter.
Simply more feminin skin???

I had massive acne since fall 2003. I supposed it came from finasteride (took it since early 2001).
Took 30mg zinc end of 2005 - helped a bit but not complete. dutasteride did the rest. But here and there, how i said, i have still one pimple.
But it got much better with dutasteride. Hope this helped.

I used Accutane in my 20s. Damn stuff saved my life, IMHO. I had severe cystic acne since puberty. NOTHING worked. Three months(?) of Accutane and it was gone forever.

It's nasty though, when on it. You'll get nose bleeds constantly. Your lips will dry out and crack and bleed every time you try and eat something.

But... it works. I've had no side effects from it (post-treatment).

No to accutane if your concerned about hairloss.

I went on accutane (roaccutane to us in dear old blighty) and had a really horrid time on it and since; i had a enlarged liver/blurred vision/'foggey' head etc'. Yeah it cleared my skin, but it was a mighty cost to pay; i had gastro internal problems 3years later from it. However most importantly if you are concerned about hairloss, do not go on it. Althougth the info says any hairloss grows back, for a lot of people it doesnt. I have no idea why, but thats not only mine but many others experience. Personally I think using a sunbed to help clear the skin up is more advisable than the Roche med.
