Hi all,

Bit of an awkward thread here.....I've been on Procepia (finasteride) for exactly a week. This morning I noticed a huge patch of dry/cracking skin on my scrotal sac. There's another small one at the base of my soldier.

I don't know if there's a correlation and that propecia is to blame here, but I've never had anything like this before (and certainly not in that area). While I'm sure a moisturizer or something would do the trick, I'm worried that this might be a symptom of something more serious. Also, I've noticed that my stubble has become very itchy and annoying. Again, I don't know if this is a result of taking propecia but both started around the same time.

Can anyone shed some light? I bloody hope I'm not one of the unlucky 2% that gets screwed over by the drug.

Thanks in advance

I would correlate it to being winter and being in buildings and housing that has very little moisture because of the nature of heating... but thats just me

If you have never had anything like that before and you started on a new drug like finasteride, then i would say that it is 90% likely to be finasteride.

I have been on it for 5 days and i get dry skin on my forehead, and a small rash. The dry skin goes when i moisturise and is getting less and less each day.

Just monitor it, if it goes then great. In my opinion the 2% side effect is not correct. I may not be suffering from ED or anything like that yet. But i had a headache for the first few days. Also my nuts ached, but thats getting less and less common as each day goes by.

I noted in a previous post that my nipples are very dry since being on finasteride. Possibly due to the winter as well but hard to say!

if you stop finasteride youll note the same "sides" i'll bet. Dont attribute every little thing to finasteride, dry scrotam is not a documented side effect. Nor is dry skin. Finasteride blocks type II 5ar, not not type I, which is found in the skin..if it does, it barely blocks ANY.

If you keep noting these "sides" youll get obsessed real easily and drive yourself crazy and stop it because your attributing something to fint hat is totally unrelated.

But if you stop, remember, fins half-life is something like 8 hours and even when it builds up in your system it goes away relatively quickly, so dont go complaining like those guys on propeciahelp.com and askapatient that finasteride "fucked up my life forever and MERCK LIES!!!!" because it is not true, if it were finasteride wouldnt be FDA approved, you want a "natural route" take saw palmetto which isnt FDA approved and sucks anyway and very well may have more sides than finasteride, we dont know because it hasnt been tested.

Just relax, i was paranoid for the first few weeks for nothing, im 6 months in and happy that my hair loss has stopped. No cosmetically significant regrowth yet but no more hair loss. Just relax, sides are rare and not that bad.
