Anyone a Serious Hair Gel User Before Losing It?

Just trying to compile some info. I had a think earlier today and I used to use a lot of hair gel as a kid and into my early 20's. My theory is that it in fact contributes to early hair loss as well as constant combing or brushing of the hair. So I am posing the question to you all.

As a child or teen did you use a lot of hair products such as hair spray, gel, grease or wax?
Did you comb or brush your hair very often?
And do you think that these things are major contributing factors to early male pattern baldness or hair loss in general whether early or not?

My hair was sexy and full as a teen and into my early 20's gel was an everyday thing for me as well as brushing or combing.

Yes, I also combed and used hair gel alot, but NO it is NOT the reason behind your hair loss. Your hair loss is related to your genetics, otherwise it would make sense to stop combing/using gel and your hair would come back if that were the case.

When i first noticed hairloss there was a slight thinning on the crown for about a year or so, I had long hair so I didnt use gel at the time. As soon as I started using gel I started diffusing all over and I went from a very slight thinning on the crown to about a Norwood 3.5 in about 3 months. I'm sure it was a coincidence, but I did read somewhere a while ago that gel clogs the pores on the scalp and speeds up the hairloss process, not sure how credible the info was though.

I used to cake gel in my hair also and i suffered significant hairloss over that period, especially when i left it in my hair overnight. I always wondered if it helped contribute to my hairloss. As some someone already stated hair gel does not cause male pattern baldness but for people that actually have the genes i think the gel makes the hair come out faster, coz the gel pulls and clumps the hair together and people with miniturization have weaker hair and its not rooted as strongly, so this tugging effect pulls it out pre-maturely. Thats my theory anyway.

hair gel pulls the hair? wow...explain that one please
miniaturized hair is rooted just as strong has regular hair....its just that the resting growth phase is a lot shorter so you see it falling out more frequently. your theories are horrible.

Are you following me from post to post?

And what proof do you have that minaturized hair is rooted in as strongly as regular hair? i don't believe thats the case at all! In fact thats one of the mechanisms of Rogaine, increasing the root circumference anchoring in the hair in more firmly. It even demostrates this in an animation on the Rogaine commercial. So it appears my theory is not so horrible after all!

pubic hairs are really thick, thats why you don't go bald in the pubic hair region, it's a very strong theory

I don't think metalhead's "theory" is horrible. I may not experience this with my miniaturized hairs, but most of the time when I pull out a normal-looking long piece of hair from the top of my scalp and examine the hair bulb, half(the bottom) of the bulb isn't even there....almost as if something ate it...lol(no joking...seriously though) and the rest of the bulb slides of real easily. I just blame it on DHT/testosterone.

That isn't rogaine's mechanism. Hair shaft diameter and hair root dermal depth are definitely decreased in male pattern baldness, but that doesn't mean that the hair "pulls out easier" at all.

Well id love to test this theory coz I notice everytime i run my hands through my hair the average hair that comes out is often half the size of the length of the rest of my hair and extremelly thin and weak looking, very rarely is it a full length thicker non minaturized one.....they seem to be rooted stronger. But i could be wrong.

You are wrong. You would notice minaturized hairs falling out becasue:
1) they have a shorter life
2) They grow slower than non affected male pattern baldness hairs.

You should seriously do some research because you are talking out of your ***.

Well where is your proof hero? What you have stated is true and I know about that. But that still does not prove that minaturized hairs are as hard or easy to pull out as not minaturized ones. So why the hell should i accept anything you say as gospel? Like you're the Balding God of Hairlosstalk.com. By the way thats a title you can keep. Ill make you a trophy.

Why are we talking about pulling out hairs anyway. Any hairs that come out easily eg when you brush/wash your hair are hairs that are ready to shed.

:agree:

metalheadmoron...why dont you listen to anybody?? miniaturized hair doesnt stay in the growth phase long and sheds more often...thats why you notice them when you wash or brush your hair...everytime it sheds it grows back weaker with an EVEN shorter growth phase...until there is nothing left....it is not anchored any weaker...LMAO.

You're smart enough to know that, but the other person that thinks he can pull all his hair out clearly isn't.
