Anybody Switch From Propecia To Proscar With Worse Results?

I think the original poster has a valid question. I switched to proscar after 6 years on propecia and have suddenly noticed my hair losing density for the first time. It is much thinner on top and at the front. Before switching to proscar i was only ever concerned with hairline recession.

I have read that exposing a cut proscar pill to air for days at a time may reduce its potency, and also that getting an inconsistent supply (due to irregular cutting and non equal distribution of finasteride thruougout the pill) of finasteride may reduce its effectiveness.

These are things you should consider but there are enough positive reviews from people who have made the switch that i personally dont think these are an issue. My biggest concern is that my proscar, bought from an overseas pharmacy, is not genuine. The pills look real and have proscar and merck printed on them but the thought that i may not actually taking any finasteride at all is really getting at me, and for this reason i will probably switch back to propecia. Could be all paranoia (thats what this damn hairloss thing does to ya) but probably better safe than sorry. right?

i switched from propecia to proscar. didn't notice any different at all.

i got my proscar from local phramcy so confirm it the real stuffs.

I didn't think docs would prescribe Proscar for hair loss? I know they're both finasteride and all, but I'd think there would be legal/ethical risks for the Doctor to do so since it's technically not "indicated" for hair loss?
i think in my country as far as i know, proscar is not cover by insurance. there will be no possible way to cheat. so i think it not a problem for my Doctor to prescript proscar to me. most of the case that i read about when Doctor refuse to prescript is due to insurance fraud.

anyway, will be getting from my neighbouring country next time. one of my friend told me you can get it straight from the pharmacy with out prescription and 25% cheaper.

jc444. it seem that you make the switch to proscar only jan this year. frankly, i think it your mind playing trick on you. even if you are using fake proscar for hardly a month, you won't be noticing such a big different.

Yeah, ordering it online can be easy.

I would probably do that if I were you. Where do you live? How do you like the Alpecin shampoo (I see it in your regime)

i am thinking of ordering India's proscar. i know most likely it is safe but somehow, i am still worry that it might not be the real stuffs. paying about $70 USD more per year is also not something i like to do so most likely i will be giving it a try.

i am living in Singapore.

as i have use Alpecin less than a month and most of the time my daily hair loss is in the normal range of 30-50, i can't really comment how helpful it is. so far, i like the shampoo quite alot due to how it make my hair and scalp feel. i still have faith in it although only time can tell whether is it working for me . certainly no harm trying as it not very expensive. maybe what you can try is to find a distributor near your country and Email them asking whether can they send to you. i guess this will save you some cost then buying from other website.

according to one of my friend which have been using it for 5months and his hairloss have decrease by about 100% while proscar, minoxidil, laser comb etc have done nothing. he stopped proscar for about one month and the result is still holding up. the only other treatment he is using is super zix and AA for 3months.

anyway, i send a Email asking Alpecin about the zinc percentage in their shampoo and are they doing any study. below is their reply:
please understand, that we don't talk about details of our formula.
Of course we are carrying out some studies to give additional approval of the great benefit of our caffeine-series.
Please be patient. We shall publish the results of theses investigations if the studies will have been finished.
In the neartime we shall publish in the British Journal of Investigative Dermatology our latest results of caffeine antagonism to testosterone in living hair roots.

I switched to generic Proscar two months ago after being on Propecia for about five years. I'm still seeing shedding and my hair is a lot thinner than it ever has been. I"m seriously considering going back to Propecia because I don't know how long sheds are supposed to last.
