Any tips for early signs of thinning and scalp treatment?

Hello there,

For around a year now I've noticed gradual thinning in my temple areas - a receding hairline - associated with male pattern baldness. I'm currently 23 years old, my brother of 25 doesn't seem to have these symptoms. It is only quite subtle, but I think that is helped by the fact that I have quite long hair and it's easily covered. I noticed when I wash my hair, it's very common for me to have hair on my hands, not huge clumps, but quite a few strands. I'm not too sure if this is normal due to my hair length. My hair everywhere else is generally quite thick, and just a little thin on the crown.

Now, to add to the equation, I suffer from what I believe is dermatitis of the scalp (and I also experience symptoms in random spots - eg. my pinky finger flakes and dries). I haven't seen a dermatologist, but my GP has recommended me a sorbelene, and hydrozole (anti fungal) to moisturize my finger which seems to help, but not completely rid the symptoms. I haven't been diagnosed anything for my hair.

I currently use Head and Shoulders to try and treat my dermatitis like symptoms (which cause dandruff). But I've read online that Head and Shoulders is actually counter productive to prevent hair loss, and I should look at alternatives.

I've heard that Sebizole, and Nizoral (hope I spelled these right, and excuse me if they are actually the same!) based shampoos are worth looking into. Right now my primary focus is to sort out the dermatitis symptoms (which by the way are only prevalent in my temples - where I'm thinning) as I believe they are the underlying cause of my temple thinning and they should be addressed first.

It's also worth noting that I don't think my Testosterone/DHT levels are too much to blame, as I'm generally quite hairless everywhere else (well, I don't grow any chest/back hair). But again, I could be wrong.

In addition to the anti fungal shampoo options, I've read that Proscar is worth looking into stopping my receding hairline (and sometimes regrowing hair?). While this is certainly open to me, I think I should sort out my skin/scalp/temple condition, first, and see how I go.

Sorry about the long winded post, but hopefully someone has been in a similar situation as me, and can recommend the best options!

Many thanks in advance!

Well nizoral has been shown to benefit male pattern baldness as well as scalp issues so that's definitely somewhere to start, I don't really see the point of sorting one issue out and then tackling the other after, if you're willing to start with finasteride then start it ASAP along with the nizoral, that would be a good pairing to sort out both problems.

Ive seen lot of people who dont have lot of hair on their chests, shoulders etc.. and yet they lost their hair, also, a hairy body is a sign/side effect of a high testosterone level in the body as far as I know. I would recommend visiting a Doctor and ask him for a male pattern baldness diagnosis, anyways, I have a friend who has a receding hair line when he was about 19-20, and then the progression of male pattern baldness was halted (he is 27 now), basically you cant count of a theory or others experiences, you have to try available options by yourself! :s.
