retin-a has 2 functions when used in conjunction with minoxidil.
it is proven to increase absorption.
it is also shown to reduce androgen activity by up to 30%.
IMO retin-a at best it is a mild anti-androgen... working in a similar manner to azelaic acid and making it harder for androgens to bind to the follicle.

personally minoxidil alone did nothing.
when I used a minoxidil in conjunction with retin-a as well as other products I had greater regrowth success.
The two I recommend due to their delivery systems are 'Promox' / remox (by Dr Klein) which is a minoxidil mix with retin-a, finasteride, progesterone and a few other mild anti-androgen ingredients.
2nd one I like is Min-New York. not as easily applied and one for the night time due to it being more cream like.
contains a nono delivery system and uses mild dht inhibiting properties as well as SOD's.

if you're a bit of a chemist you can make similar mixes yourself.

both are more expensive... but better performing mixed minoxidil solutions available.

Yes, I am using .050% retinoic acid (just changed from .025%) I got from Dr. Lee before the damn feds shut him down, I apply it on my scalp, derma roll then apply 15% minoxidil.

Hi,

I like the look of Promox... where do you buy it from?

I can find a "package" deal on hairgrowthmd but is it possible just to buy say a bottle of promox, and not all the other guff?

should be able to buy it from that site without being in a package. dunno.
If you want to save a bit of cash you also have the option of just buying say the remox iv version and then going to whole sale hair products dot com and buying some liquid finasteride to add yourself.

Hi,

Thanks yes i've found just the bottle on its own... so if you're already on say finasteride or dutasteride, do you think the finasteride in this would just give you a little extra help, or would it possibly end up with too much getting in the body systemically?

no need for the topical finasteride as well...
the retin-a is def a good inclusion to your regime though

Hi,

Yeah i've been using Dr Lee's minoxidil + Retin A and think the Retin A part is excellent (shame I can't get his anymore!)

However recently i've felt that finasteride has just lost a little of it effectiveness on me, and wondered if by adding this product to my regimen might just help it retain more hair?

but then on the flip side I dont want to overload my body with too much finasteride. :dunno:

wow my memory is hazy and I've been off the forums too long to be sure.
but my recollection is that finasteride actually increases androgen receptor sites on the scalp. but due to it's inhibition of dht more than counters this issue.

Retin-a reduces androgen receptivity by up to 30% when applied to sites over longer terms.

therefore a combo of the two should be more than beneficial working somewhat synergistic-ally.

if internal finasteride is losing it's effectiveness for you, am not sure topical finasteride in addition will add the extra punch you're after?? perhaps another alternative topical should be considered.

I thought you were using Dutas?

Hi sorry that's my fault for trying to keep my posts short.

Yes I'm on Dutas and have been for about 6 years now... however planning on starting a family in the next year so am cutting down on dutasteride and have been taking it every other day, with finasteride on the other days... I dont really want any dutasteride kicking around in my system when sowing my seed so to speak. I also dont want any finasteride, but the half life of that is a lot less so my theory is get on finasteride now as its better than nothing.

I'm now almost at the end of my dutasteride supply and am going to be taking just finasteride everyday once that's finished... but i'm already noticing a bit of thinning even with dutasteride every other day, so really need something to give the finasteride a boost as dutasteride every day keeps my hair at a good solid level without any real loss.

Again apologies for not giving all the information 1st time round... I know if people remember your regimen that it might be confussing when suddenly i'm posting a completely different one without explanation :smack:

Based on all the above would topical finasteride help give the internal finasteride a little boost to maintain my exisiting hair?
