Hello,
For a few weeks now I've been making a daily topical which consists of a 50/50 mix of unrefined organic Pumpkin Seed Oil and unrefined organic Evening Primrose Oil, to which I add Polysorbate 80 at 5% by volume.
My hair looks and feels healthier now on this new topical regime. For the last 5 years my daily regime comprised of 2% Nizoral shampoo in the morning and at night I applied a very high concentration Saw Palmetto extract in 40% ethanol. This was reasonably effective at slowing loss, but the harshness had a negative impact on the visual quality of my hair, which became thin, dry and lifeless, hence the switch.
There are various studies and anecdotal evidence of the effect of PSO and EPO topically. I think as a solution they are underused and overlooked. I would like to know if there is any chemical I can add to increase the absorbancy and dermal penetration of these heavy oils to get the maximum benefit. It does seem to absorb after some time as-is, but I'd like to improve and speed up the penetration. I tried Propylene Glycol but I don't think it worked with the oils, and after my last experience I want to avoid using ethanol in mixes.
