Any benefit to taking more than 1mg finasteride?

Just wondering if there is any benefit to taking 2mg of finasteride a day over 1mg?

I seem to tollerate the drug really well and have no side effects, but I used to be on dutasteride (quit as want to start a family in 12 months time, and want all the dutasteride out of my system by then).

On dutasteride my scalp sebum was a lot less than on 1mg of finasteride and I think it was working better at keeping my hair thicker than finasteride has, so would there be any benefit it increasing my dosage of finasteride?

yep, that's what spencer kobren and some of his pals say they started doing as finasteride lost its effectiveness for them. a year or so one of the front page things on thebaldtruth was a whole big interview about increasing finasteride dosage to keep it working for you. i'd say go for it.

With more finasteride comes more potential for sides. However, if you tolerated dutasteride well, then you should be good with upping the finasteride.

BTW...I'm currently debating dutasteride. Do you have any results pics from your usage of it?

yeah thats what I was thinking, I seem to tollerate these things well, but equally have pretty aggressive loss, so will up to 2mg a day and see how it goes.

I love dutasteride, works brilliantly IMO, but obviously everyone is different.

Here's a link to my success... this was after 11 months and I pretty much kept it at this level for about 5 years, but like I explained have dropped it for finasteride due to wanting to start a family. However I can definately feel the difference and I miss my dutasteride! :sobbing:

A few points to note about this regimen are:

1) I dropped from every day to 3 times a week (just because I wanted to save money and see if it was just as effective) but over 12 months lost a little ground... not loads, but enough to jump back on it every day

2) Had great results from minoxidil+Retin A. Dropped it for minoxidil foam, and it didnt work... I'm now back on minoxidil+Retin A (plus foam) and am starting to make good progress again... I think this is as important as dutasteride or finasteride.

3) If it works dont mess with your regimen! I have tinkered and always lost ground... not lots but enough to make me regret it a bit.

Took 2mg today and when touching around my hair line its definately a lot less greasy and oily... still got some there, but in previous days its been really bad, so looks like 2mg might actually be helping keep my sebum production down.

This is interesting; I literally got off the telephone from my psychiatrist a few minutes ago who was talking about finasteride doses and a new study showing benefits of 2.5mg over 1mg.

I'll try to find more info / link to the article (I think it is in a medical journal).

2.5 mg of finasteride works better for me than 1 mg.

HOWEVER, if you are just starting out I believe you should stick with the standard 1 mg dose. I only ramped up because I have been on finasteride since before cell phones.

Thats good that it's been shown to be more benefical... my scalp definately feels a bit less greasy now i've bumped up to 2mg.

I might start buying proscar and just splitting it in half for each day.

Anyone know if the tablet have a line on the making it easy to break in half? Or do you need to cut them?
