Hi,

Basically in July 2014 I was travelling in thailand and had a sever bad stomach. I went to a boots pharmacist and got an antibiotic to treat the problem. I took this for a week or so. My stomach did not get 100% better until over a month (I spent most of this time in western countries).

I started to notice the hairloss within that first month of the bad stomach/use of the antibiotic. I have since visited the doctor who advised me that the antibiotic I took was very strong one usually used for chemotherapy patients! ADVICE do not take antibiotics that arent subscribed by a doctor.

Anyway family history of male pattern baldness only occurs from 40s+ and even then no full hair loss. At this rate I will end up catching up with my grandparents.

It has been 3 months or so and and I have gradually and been loosing my hair leading to an almost norwood 2. I used to have the thickest hair! I am certain that either my bad stomach or the anti biotic has triggered some kind of hormone or issue in my body that has began my hairloss.

I have read an article about soy product and some kind of bacteria or something in the body/stomach that if altered can cause hairloss/prostate problems? Any ideas/thoughts?

I had absolutely no hairloss before this point and I can quite accurately track my hairloss as I was travelling before the hairloss began with lots of pictures and can almost track the loss of hair through my pictures.

I've had blood tests etc. (all fine) and I am booked in to see a dermatologist. The hairloss is killing my confidence, making me feel anxious and depressed. At 21 I was not expecting to lose my hair........... what can I do/should I do guys?

Should I start minoxidil or just save up for a hair transplant, I definetly dont want to go on propecia........... pls help

If it is in amale pattern baldness pattern it's likely just a coincidence that the hairloss is happening after taking the antibiotic. 21 is a pretty normal age for male pattern baldness to happen. If it is male pattern baldness you should start finasteride, and maybe minoxidil/nizoral too

A hair transplant would be a bad idea without finasteride, you will lose hair behind the transplant in the future. You are young and will likely lose the entire top of your head. Also, minoxidil will only give you a few years, if that (like 2-5 max). finasteride is needed for long term maintenance/success
