I finally went to the doctors today because depression and obsessing over my hair loss has made me unable to sleep and quite angry all the time. He prescribed me rozac but a side effectis hair loss (!) . Anyone else take this or now if it can realistically make male pattern baldness worse?

No, but if you are on prozac AND finasteride - say goodbye to your dick.

Not taking finasteride, yet at least. Have you taken prozac before?

Anyone else know if it can speed up male pattern baldness? I've read one doctor say it could so I'm worried. F'n annoying that I'm taking it to stop obsessing about my hair too.

You should try exercise - it's better than any anti depressant unless you have severe depression such as bi polar.

If i can find some happiness in life with NW3 hairloss and impotence amongst other menopausal symptoms. You sure can with just hair loss.

No idea how bad your depression is, but, I've had very severe depression, especially recently. Not about hair loss (though I worry about that too of course, or else I wouldn't be here), but other stuff. I've been on Prozac for a couple months now. I haven't noticed any extra hairloss really, aside from shedding which I'd attribute to Rogaine (started about a month ago).

While I agree excercise is something you should definitely do (I work out daily, and I have swim practice every day), if your depression is anywhere near as severe as mine, excercising won't make it all better. But, that could just be me, since I have OCD, I obsess about certain things. Prior to the Prozac, working out would either take my mind off it temporarily (it would come back right after the work out) or it wouldn't do anything at all.

Point is, I wouldn't attribute any of my hairloss to Prozac. I'm not aware of my chemical body functions though, so, I have no idea if on some level it is or isn't affecting my hair.

Thanks for replies.

For me, obsessing about my hair is so bad that I've been going to the gym only to come out after an hour having done nothing but worry aout my hair being able to see it in the mirror - especially if i've been sweating and it looks even worse. It's become an addiction which takes up my whole day hence the prozac...other stuff has caused the depression in the first place but this is what I've become stuck with. I've channelled all my worries into losing my hair and cant help it.

But yes i am worried about prozac speeding up hair loss.

Escapist, you're 16 yeah? Hope you're better soon mate...that's too young to be this way.

Yeahh. Thanks. I'm working on it. I just wish I didn't have to worry about losing my hair on top of the other things I can't help but worry about. But, I'm hopeful about the hair treatments, and I'm working on the other stuff. So, that's good =]

Just because a possible side effect of a drug is hair loss, that doesn't mean it might effect male pattern baldness long term, or even be related to male pattern baldness.

It might be like minoxidil in reverse.
