Hi guys

OK I've read the introductory article on this site and got a rough idea of this whole area... but I could still use a bit of info from the community before I get started I think!

So I'm 41 and have had diffuse shedding for a couple of years now. It actually started when I had a bout of actual alopecia areata which affected my beard first, followed by multiple patches around my head. I was able to hide that reasonably well for the most part as I have always had pretty thick curly hair.

Now the alopecia's gone (after about 1.5-2 yrs), but the shedding has continued, and it's become clear that I am gradually going thin generally. Still early stages. Hairline a bit receded. No crown issues yet. Mostly I can disguise it because of the curls, and most people won't notice. After gym when it's wet though, and of course in strong lighting, you can see more pink up there than you should. An interesting selection of hairs in the bath daily, and around the house etc. Get a bit of the old flaky scalp, although I wondered if this is because I actually avoid any kind of vigorousness when washing, as I don't want to pull out more hairs than I need to (perhaps this is silly).

Anyway, just looking for a bit of support to get started I guess. So I should start on Propecia/Finasteride? Rogaine too, or just see how I get on with the Propecia? I also have Nizoral already.

However the 'buy' links are giving me error messages on the introductory article, so could do with a pointer on where/what to buy? I'm based in the UK...

Feel free to supply guidance to get me started!

Much appreciated.

Mud.

Pics would be good. Starting propecia would be a good idea, the faster you start treatment the better for your hair... don't bother with minoxidil as of yet, give finasteride a year to see results first, also use something like nizoral shampoo a few times a week, although like i said pics would help give better information. You can get finasteride in uk from https://www.medexpress.co.uk/

When talking to my doctor recently, I mentioned that I wanted to look into finasteride, and he has referred me (to a dermatologist I think)... don't know how long this will take, but can you actually get finasteride on the NHS??

Anyway, generally I'm able to disguise it because my hair fluffs up pretty good, but I'd still be interested in finding a workable way to halt the slow decline if possible...

Thanks for your help and patience

No, Not for hair loss although it's routinely prescribed for benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).
