Another Big 3?

Hi,

Been surfing these boards as of late, previously used another popular forum, but found this one to be quite helpful. I'm 25, losing about 100-150 hairs per day in the shower, with general slight thinning and slightly receding temples. I started Proscar, but stopped because of the sides. Currently use Nizoral 2x per week and Rogaine 1x per day before bed.

Is there something else that I could substitute for finasteride as the 3rd of the "Big 3"? Preferrably something with minimal sides.

I know Rogaine doesn't necessarily work on the temples, but I've heard it works for some... should I continue to use? Also, the skin where I apply the rogaine appears flaky and dry in the morning (use lotion after showering)... does this mean that it's doing more harm to my hair than good? Also, is it possible that using Rogaine on the temples can do more harm than good?

Still a general noob, so all help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My advice:

lose nizoral and replace with Revita

prepare a topical with ethanol (Everclear) and
3 tea powder http://www.gonsi.com/products/product-d ... 5003006625 and
jojoba oil http://www.gardenofwisdom.com/catalog/i ... 778690.htm and
black pepper extract oil and http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=7828 using
"Seamollient" http://www.gardenofwisdom.com/catalog/i ... 823987.htm as a base

make your own shampoo with liquor carbonis detergens http://www.ucsf.edu/dpsl/coaltar.html free of SLS. read the New Research and Discoveries section to decide what if anything extra you'd want to put in the topical I suggested, or the coal tar extract shampoo. I suggest considering Tea Tree Oil and Salicylic acid from GardenOfWisdom.com for the shampoo. You can find non-irritating surfactants for sale there too.

Why LCD? viewtopic.php?f=32&t=41243&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=liquor+carbonis

I don't these things (except for Revita) but I would if I had the money.

If I had to suggest one thing it would be a topical containing at least the ethanol (for absorption), the 3 tea powder, and the jojoba oil (for moisterizing and absorption....just using alcohol to help absorption will be drying). "Seamollient" is great stuff for a base, feels really good on the scalp, and it cheap too.

Why Revita instead of nizoral and where can I get it?

Also, I had to stop taking the proscar because of the sides, but have a ton leftover... is there way to sell it off online or some other way to get rid of it?

Advice on the rogaine is also appreciated.

Thanks!

First off, Revita is SLS free. SLS is an irritating surfactant. Here is a list of Revita's ingredients, although I think it is worth noting is also contains menthol.

Revita is widely available on the internet, although I have not seen or heard of it being sold in stores.

Well I appreciate Follically Challenged is trying to help but I don't agree with his advice.

My advice is to increase nizoral to 5 x a week, its a great anti androgen.

Also I dont believe there is anything wrong with SLS unless you have a specific allergy or something to it.

minoxidil does work on the temples, its just because in the FDA trials they only looked at the vertex, so they aren't allowed to make any claims about the temples, but it does work. If you are flaking try using Tricomin or Folligen, many people find this helps alleviate minoxidil irritation.

Thanks guys.

Any advice on how to get rid of all this finasteride I have leftover? 3 unopened boxes, what's the best way to go about selling it off?

Any other tips for a finasteride substitute is welcome. I plan on possibly making the topical and upping the frequency of the nizoral for now. May try Rev.

Yep, what global said, you have to have at least some type of anti androgen in there, otherwise you will NEVER have a success story.
