Anita’s story
Hi everyone. I am 28 years old, and have been experiencing hair loss for almost 9 months now. When I was 15 and in highschool, I had a mild hair loss bout. As I recall, I just noticed a bald spot on the side of my head, went to a dermatologist and was told that it was stress-related (I was living with an alcoholic, so not surprising). I was given stress tablets (B vitamins) and in a few months my hair was back. End of story. But now, I suspect there is more going on, because I have been taking stress tabs to no avail. I was living abroad all of 2002, in a remote area, but was quite healthy. No hair loss. But as soon as I returned to the US this March, I noticed the hair loss. I attributed it to a change in climate, lifestyle, etc, and assumed it would go away. There was also a lot of stress in my life then, as I was on the east coast, writing my dissertation, and planning my wedding on the west coast and my move to the west coast, which is where I am now. I noticed the hair loss mostly in the shower, because when I washed my hair a LOT of hair would come out, like at least twice as much as usual. Then, in the last 2-3 months, I actually started to see areas of my scalp. They are not your typical round alopecia areata areas (or at least not yet). But you can see splotches around my part line, and at the front of my head :freaked: And my entire hair feels thinner. There could be hair missing in the back but I don’t know because I just don’t see it
My primary care doctor referred me to a dermatologist and I was lucky to get an appt for tomorrow. I’m in the Davis-Sacramento area but am unfamiliar with physicians, since I just moved here from NY 3 months ago. My husband has MBP and he was the one that showed me this web site. I am so glad he did, because I feel better already knowing I can get info somewhere. I know it is late, but if anyone has any tips for my derm visit tomorrow, that would be great. I haven’t had any bloodwork done except for my thryroid levels, which are all normal. The only other weird thing that happened was that since I came back to the US I’ve gained about 15 lbs. I haven’t started any new meds, and I’ve been on birth control pills for almost 3 years. I don’t see how this can be hormonal since I have never been pregnant and am nowhere near menopause. I hope this gets resolved soon!
Thanks for listening!
