Am I Too Far Gone? Or Is Regrowth Possible?

Yo. So I recently cut my hair, I had long dreadlocks for about eight years. I cut it for a few reasons, but it just started looking less professional as I got older and as it got longer It recently seemed a bit thinner. What I didn't realize was that I was thinning up underneath, which I blame on my father's genes. He and my uncle are bald, so the locs might have accelerated the thinning. Anyway, I started on finasteride 1mg, nizoral, and minoxidil about a month ago. Am I too far gone? Or is it possible I can reverse some of the damage? I'm 25 fwiw. Thanks

Also, in the pictures, this is after a haircut. Of course once my hair gets longer, the thinning is even more noticeable. I envy you guys with straight hair that can just let it grow over the thinning areas lol. I swear, I get pissed every time I look at it. When I had my long locs, the thinning areas looked like pretty baby hairs to all the girls. Little did I know, I was naive haha.

You have a lot of hair left man. Catching the loss early on is one of the most important things in retaining. Stick to the BIG 3 that you're currently doing for 6 months and go from there. Also take photos once a month.

Other than that it looks good mate.

Thanks man, hopefully I caught it early enough. I think I've already noticed slight hair is growing in the worst area, so hopefully it picks up from there. I don't mind if it doesn't recover completely, I just pray I get enough thickening to where the thinning isn't as noticeable

Yeah I agree, catching it early is key. We have excellent treatments for people in your situation. I did something similar but I was maybe 27-28 and was good for 10 years. For some reason Ive really thinned out last couple of years, I guess its just my genes. However you are luckier because I really believe that in 3-5 years we will have a bunch of solid treatments available. Just don't let the shedding mislead you and ride it out for at least a year before making a decision bc thats the #1 mistake the majority of "non responders" make. They go through a shed, they panic, stop treatment and are left worse off.

Oh trust me, I'm riding it out, mostly because this is my biggest hope lol. If this scientifically proven method doesn't work, I'm screwed haha. I'm pretty sure I've had a shed already, mostly because I think my hair was a tad thicker before I started. But it's been so long since I've had a regular cut, that I may just be noticing it more. Though it's harder to tell if I'm shedding or not because I'm keeping it shorter. Either way, my fingers are crossed for now.
