Am I Receding?

Ok, Im 23, and noticed my hair was starting to recede about a year ago, ever since then I've been paranoid about it...

My hair doesnt appear to be thinning at the crown, however the temples seem really thin.

I've been loitering the forums for about 8 months and finally decided to join today to ask the simple question thats been bothering me for a year. Am I receding or am I being stupid? My sides seem be the thinning too.

I've attatched 2 pics, of each side of my head. Let me know what your thoughts are. I've also been doing some research. Some months ago I stumbled acroos the term "the big 3"... can someone refresh my memory as to what "the big 3" are?

The only way to avoid getting fake pills is to go to your Doctor and get a script. Anytime you buy online there is a risk of getting fake pills or just plain ripped off.

The site you posted the link to looks really shady too IMO. I have ordered online in the past and used hairlossgenerics.com (the site linked to HairLossTalk.com) and also Unitedpharmacies.com.

Hold on....

You do show some slight recession, but I'm not all that convinced that its anything more than simple age-appropriate hairline maturation. Sure, that is still male pattern baldness, but not necessarily to a degree that will take you way out on the Norwood scale.

Have you noticed any itchiness or irritation in the areas where your hair appears to be receeding?

For now, I'd suggest you just get yourself some Nizoral shampoo. If your scalp is irritated and or itchy, I'd then suggest you give Propecia/Finasteride a shot.

I would absolutely AVOID minoxidil at this point for you. Minoxidil is a regrowth agent, and it only works ONCE. If you really believe you have early signs of serious male pattern baldness, then FIRST combat it with a preventative strategy of keeping what you got, i.e. nizoral and finasteride.

Save Minoxidil for later on in your life, when you actually have some significant amount of lost hair that requires regrowth. Using it now is only flushing money down the toilet.

Okay I will give propecia a shot. The thing that worries me is the rate in which it has started receding. I think that within a couple of years it will be rather bad...

Yeah and give propecia at least 3 months....If you still have sides after that period,stop the drug altogether.

Okay... hate to say this, but that's a classic side effect of male pattern baldness. Yes try the Propecia, but from my experience, you also NEED to get your scalp irritation under control. I would pick up some Nizoral, use 2-3 times a week, AND I would pick up some other anti-fungal shampoo, such as T-Gel or Head and Shoulders. All three of these shampoos have different chemicals in them that fight scalp yeast, and when you use just one (Nizoral) there is a chance that some of your scalp yeast might develop tolerance against the active ingredient in it, which is why you should always occasionally cycle in an alternate antifungal shampoo.

Hop on this now. Intense itching is a sign that your follicles are under attack right now, and this kind of makes sense given the rate of recession you are noticing.

Don't freak out too badly... hair recession does not occur at a constant rate, it occurs in fits and starts over the course of decades. Right now you are probably going through one of these recession fits, and if you hop on some treatment, you can probably stop this current fit and your hairline will stabilize, and you'll most likely actually regain some thickness just through shedding replacement cycle.

I guess what I am saying is that just because recession may appear rapid right now, you will NOT be bald by Christmas! Hair tends to recede in distinct episodes, then it stabilizes for a while, sometimes even for years, and then you'll have another attack later, and the whole thing repeats. Get your scalp into good shape now, hop on the finasteride, and you can minimize this process and perhaps even halt it for a GOOD long while.

PFS sounds scary, and the cons outweigh the pro's by a long shot....

It seems that everyone that tries it at least gets some "minor" side effects. I was also put off for the same reason and decided to never take it.

I was using minoxidil and also liquid spironolactone but now I have given up and decided to just let it fall out. If your hair is important to you then I think propecia or dutasteride is the only way to keep it unfortunately.

If you no not take propecia there is nothing you can do about being bald apart from slowing down the inevitable with monoxidil and nizoral shampoo. I suggest you take propecia and decide for yourself whether you can tolerate side effects or you might not even experience any at all. I myself contracted a rare side effect where I had mild cushing syndrome on my face; I do not regret taking the drug because how would I have known that would of happened to me; though I do regret retrying it another two times - do not know what I was thinking when I did that. Safe to say I wil never take the drug again because I would rather look healthy with hair loss rather than a freak with a thick head of hair.
According to merk and users of this forum in all probability you will not suffer from any side effects; so take it is my opinion; but with caution.
