hi there,

i went to a see a hair specialist in sept/2003 and obviously he suggested a hair transplant, seeing as it was gonna cost nearly $9000 i said the hell with it i'm 21 years old have hair covering my whole head and am just thinning in the back top, middle and front left and right. so i decided to go the non surgical route. seeing as i've heard the earlier the better as far as medications go.

i have been using 2% minoxidil and 1.25 mg proscar for approx. 5 months ( which is what the Doctor prescribed ) and my hair loss / thinning has slowed noticeably. i have decided to switch to 5% minoxidil as of march/2004 and add nizoral ( 2%) to maximize the results......

now the questions:
1) is it o.k. to switch from 2% to 5% minoxidil from one day to the next?
2) is safe to take saw palmetto as well as finesteride at the same time?
3) is there anything that i could add to this regimen to better my chances of success?

thanks guys for your help !

I'm sure it is, but if I were to make that switch I would ease into it use 2% in the morning and 5% at night once those bottle were gone I would use 5% twice a day. Thats what I would do someone else will probably have a different view than me

You just added nizoral to you regimen so I wouldn't take saw palmetto and stick with finesteride

Your on the big 3 so you should be fine test it out for a few months see how it goes. Get some T/Gel shampoo, personally I like Nioxin shampoo and conditioner also.

Devil smoker you said your Doctor proposed a hair transplant even though your only 21 which is very unusual. Whats his name and what area are you in? Im only 21 too and will be considering an hair transplant in the next 2 years depending how the regimen turns out.

Does anyone know if ALVI would work on a 21 year old?

hey bhd & baskbllhd,

its been awhile since i posted.....thanks for the inquiries !

well long story short as far as progress goes, i can say that my thinning has slowed ....to what extent is another question. but this regimen works and the results are deffinitly there, and my hair is not getting worse, but the results are ultimatly dependant on how religious i am, i have been taking finasteride for 9 mos. and use 5%minoxidil every day or other day and when possible 2x a day (3ml applications). and nizoral 2x a week. I will be going for a progress check in sept, because that will mark 1 yr. i don't nor have i ever obsessed over whether or not this is working. i don't look daily at my hair or thinnnig areas, because if its meant to go despite my efforts than its gonna go so i'd rather not be miserable about it, cause all it will do is damage your self esteem....one thing i have learned : girls love a self assured and confident guy whos confidence lays in HIMSELF AND NOT HIS HAIR ( i have yet to meet a girl that has shown me otherwise ). I mean any progress at all is a step in the right direction....cause even if i don't regrow any back ( which would suck ) retaining what i have would kick *** just the same. ( I will update after progress check with my doctor.)

As far as my Doctor, he is a family friend and his advice was to get a transplant right now, but first off its to early i did my research and it would imposible to creat a natural hair line this young, cause it will recede....and also, cause if i start now with the transplants i will have to continue for the next 20 years cause my hair will keep on thinning and will constantly have to be patched up, so i would rather wait and see if this medical approach works....and in reality i would rather spend all that money on a car....i'd rather cruise with my girl alone rather than have a full head of hair and ride the bus....i can see it now, my girlfriend and i are riding the bus feeling horny but we can't fool aorund cause of all the ppl around, could of had a car, but hey look on the bright side i got hair......: :hairy

Long story i think that the Big 3 work if you use religiously and properly !
i'm confident they're working for me, i don't wanna know for sure until the 1 yr mark, then i'll know whether the battle is over or if the fun has just began........ ....DIE DHT DIE !!!!!

thanks again for the inquiries

hey basketballhead,

whats your plan of attack / regimen gonna be... ? by the way personally i would hold out on the hair transplant for alot longer than 2 years, should only be last resort....too expensive and too many botched surgeries done by non-specialists, just do lots of research and be prepared to travel if neccesary to make sure you get the best possible result.
